Paddles differences

The KBDD paddles made a big difference on the Trex450 and I haven't tried the rearward mounting hole as the front one is plenty fast for me on that heli.

I bought a Robbe Futura SE 2nd hand and it had the K&S paddles and they were in the rearward position and it was seriously twitchy, and this is a 5 kilo heli.

I just read on the youngblood paddles it says to max the throws I wonder if im not giving enough cyclic pitch last time i checked i was 8 degrees if i up everything that shoulld help more also with the kbdd paddles.

When you asked the question about the front edges being sharp or rouded, Im just curious to know if you meant "rounded" as in the Stubz paddles?

Will this actually make that much of a difference - is it all to do with the friction with the surface area in contact (with the air)?

In this case now, the larger paddle has an almost similar geometry compared to that of the Align's...so..?? (how does this affect the flight characteristics at the end of the day?)

The top one is the align shape paddle and the bottom one is a 'V' paddle.

As I was saying earlier, Align bought out a more rounded version which pretty much mimics a 'V' paddle. Hence the reason why I asked Ben which one he has.

The stubs are a much more bulky paddle (less of an aerofoil i suppose) but very light.

The thing to remember about paddles is to think of them as a plank wing. The same aerodynamics apply.

The sharper profile paddle combined with the max depth occuring more aft is more aggressive...they may also have the flybar position more rearward. In very FFF or into wind the heli may become bouncy and if you push it really hard it can tuck violently.

Basically what happens with the aggressive profiled paddles is the paddle tries to twist the flybar open in flight. The conservative ones are more neutral. Its just like how main blades work.

The Align sharp/light paddle on a Align 440 flybar will be prone to snapping flybars if you fly them hard enough. Piro Tic Tocs where you are loading both Cyclic/Collective rapidly seem to be the killer move..done 5-6 bars. It can render your main blades to dustbin fodder should the flybar get batted on departure.

I now fly the Outrage Velo 50 plastic ones and modify my SF levers to increase the available Pitch range instead..havent broken a bar since. Its less pitchy in wind and at about £5 a pop are good value. KBDD's are ok but less rounded. No way will I pay for carbon paddles these days. LOL

This will explain why the Compass plastic ones are so fast then a they just a thin piece of plastic and quite a large size compared to the Aligns and the V's

with stubs ive managed to snap both a 3mm n5 flybar and a 4mm n9 flybar, just recently swapped my n9 stubs to some white align jobby, defo slowed her dwn, but also has lost the mega snatch of the stubz, not slowed her dwn to the stage im ragging the shit out of it to move, but enuff for me to notice, havent checked the cyclic range yet, was set at 8degrees but hav been changing things by feel in the feild
