  • Just ordered a Bell 47G

Just ordered a 47G and it should be arriving on Friday. Although not sure how many people have these seeing as there is very little traffic on here about them. I'll try and let you know how the build goes.

Generally, does anyone have any experience with this model and engine? My first petrol version.
    Regards

a guy at my club has a veryyyy old one that he offten gets out to have a little fly with.

they are pretty cool and do look good in the air. its not to much of a performer though and his just todles around veryyyy slowly! lol but i guess it depends what gear you put in it!

    cheers,
    Tom

Well we'll see what it's like. I wanted to get a petrol and get back into scale of sorts and this seemed to fit the bill.

Hi petetvdb, One of our club members has the Hirobo petrol 47G.
It flies very nice and stable and the tailboom is a work of art and i understand the model has to be painted.

I have one. It's a fairly early version with metal 'semi-scale' head and
I think this is a slightly different engine than the newer ones. I'd like to see a new one up close actually.

I am doing a few minor fixes and touching up some paint that is coming off (will give sticky vinyl a go before re-painting anything).

Yeah it is one big and pretty cool looking bird. Mine is very heavy but has plenty of power.

It's my only foray into the scale birds. It's just a bit too big to move around at the moment

                  they fly very well
you can fly it slow with a low head speed or wind the head speed up for more performance

quite a few are getting around these days, when i bought mine secondhand it was the only one i'd seen
and by the way its going this is the year for the 47 at the scale fun fly's

There were 4 Hirobo 47G's at a recent fun fly. They all looked great and handled the gusty weather very well.

My first heli was a Lama 315B 30 size. Great bird to see in the air, but not too nice to fly. Loads of slop.

Hi all. By way of a quick update, the Bell 47G is built but only to the point where I am able to get it run up - i.e. no decoration or smartening up or anything. Progress has been slow due to work and other commitments etc, and now flying is put on hold because apparently these gassers tend to smell like lawnmowers once they have been run. I am waiting for our garage to be usable again after some building work so unfortunately it will sit waiting in the house until that day. Anyway I'll post an update at some point and hopefully some pictures or even a vid. We'll see. Anyway got to go as I have a Sceadu that desperately needs to burn though a gallon of fuel.
                        Regards

They don't always have to stink the place up. I have 3 gassers and they don't smell. The exception being the 47G actually but only because there is a leak somewhere that I still need to track down.

Basically if you clean them up after flying, once any petrol in the exhaust or around the fuel tank evaporates you should not have a problem.

Thanks for the info. I suppose I had better just get on with it and see how strong the smell is. A few people have said it is strong enough to cause comment from the family. Our building work is almost complete so I should be able to store it in the garage soon anyway if it is a problem. So that is next weekend planned out then. Excellent.

Well, it flew for the first time today! The engine needed very little adjustment and it lasted about 25 mins on a single tank (well, pair of tanks, but you know what I mean). Absolutely brilliant. It was a very calm day today and the heli was hovering almost hands off. Obviously the engine needs running in, so I will do that over the next period of time. Once the weather warms up enough to work in the garage comfortably, then it will be time to dismantle it and paint it up.
