  • sk540 governor (nitro) help

I have the sk540 governor enabled on my trex 600 nitro and when spooling up it comes in just as the blades start to turn which is far to quick so I have disabled it in bank 2 so I have been using this to spool up then switching gov on when in the air I just wanted to know if you can slow the gov down like a soft start when spooling up I see in the sk in drive system you have low ramp and high ramp regards loopking

Were have you got your throttle curve stating the flat line? It should be mid stick (50%) I used it on my velo50 for a time and it was great.
You can lower the low ramp down a little

        You want 0 inh inh 40 40 40 40.
        0 1 2 3 4 5 6

Then the gov will kickin at mid stick so the engine should be running at a nice rpm.

I also had the gov cutting back to idle for a few seconds when you give it full collective then cuts back in to my set speed 1900rpm, it took out one of my torque tube gears in flight, so need to get that sorted before next flight any ideas anyone

            Re: sk540 governor (nitro) help

As said lower your 1st ramp and it should sort it .I think skookum were working on some gov tweaks in there updates

nice one thanks didn't realise the flight curve wrong would cause it problems as well in flight

the sk540 gov works great dude if set correctly,,1st of all drop the low ramp to 60-70,, set the 3 desired rpm,s in the software then set your normal throttle curve to 0-20-40-40-40-40-40- less 40,s if you only have a 5 point curve idle 1 should be a straight line all 60 and idle 2 straight line at 100 ,,job done just to make sure tacho the head and if its slightly off alter it with the gain in the software

Here is a link to the new firmware v3.30

Also hows the engine tune ? has it been setup with out a throttle curve ?
Have to say when i put it on the velo with a ys56 i just followed the wizard with the basic settings and i may have dropped the low rap but it was working a treat

yes I did have it working fine last week no problems in the air just the fast kick in when spooling up but yestaday went flying pulled a rainbow with full -collective and the gov cut back to idle then re engage again it would only do it at full collective fine in circuits so I re went through the gov wizard last night but still doing it today that's when it took the gear out

Guys you all say start at zero but he cant as start at 0 because his heli is nitro and he needs to start at tickover - about 9

You start using the trim or set the engine up to idle with no trim.

right lets see if ive got this right got 0 bottom stick then 40 starts at middle stick then straight line 40 across I am running a 9 point curve so ive removed the 3 points between 0 and middle stick and I suppose ill have to recalobrate the throttle because it says set idle first for low stick and now im at 0

according to skookum its 0-20-40 straight line the rest of the way at 40 thats how i set mine up and it works a treat for me,,i used subtrim to to get a good tickover leaving low point to 0,,just remember if you alter with any subtrim to reset the high and low throttle in the software

the best way to get it working at its best is to take the heli out and start it up and get a good idle and mark the carb barrell so u know where the idle point is..what you now need to do is set the throttle endpoints in ur radio to 100-100 now using different conbinations of the holes on the servo and throttle arm get it so at bottom stick your on your idle mark u made on the barrell and at high stick your at full throttle,,you may need to alter endpoints to get it spot on but i managed to get my endpoints at 100-97 (make sure while doing this you have a linier 0-100 throttle curve)once ur happy in the 540,s software set max and idle throttle, your 3 rpm,s and set low ramp to 60-70,, back to the radio and set a normal curve to 0-20-40-40-40-40-40 more 40,s if you use a 9 point curve less if you use a 5,,idle 1 should be a flat line of 60 and idle 2 a flat line of 100,,, if for some reason the gov fails the 540 reverts to 70% throttle,,job done all should be happy
