Gotta see this, you must make a video of the first self-landing. No edits please, warts and all.
        Never happy, merely less depressed.

Well it reduces collective to 25% negative and self levels, no guarantee that will land safely IMO, it will all depend on direction of travel, speed, and altitude. Not to mention angle, and condition of the landing surface. First step to something good though!

Well I hope I'm not the first to test this but I'm pretty sure it will be better than the heli traveling off into the distance

If it had been on mine and stopped the heli travelling off into the distance I would be very happy, even if with a few repairs.
Never found mine when it flew away, searched for miles around.

Which prompted my glamorous assistant to comment "so if you lose radio contact, it can fly home, then..?" [Which was the joke.]

Eventually this can lead to a failsafe system that will return to base. Also you could program the heli to do the following things.....

                      Never fly over the pits

never fly below 2 metres (ie never crash)

Fly only in a predefined air space

never fly over a certain speed or over a certain height

Return to base, land or hover at certain height and spot on a switch

Only allow landing in a predefined space

                      True auto landing

Etc Etc. exciting stuff both for fun and more important excellant safety features

The possibilities are definitely very interesting if they do get the GPS running. Have any of you who have an SK720 tried a Beast X (preferably on the same heli) and if so, how do the flight characteristics compare?

As I said in my post definately a first step to something good. Who's going to be the first one to try a tail slide from a couple of hundred feet with no hands on the tx? Is there a date for the gps? Seems it has been touted since before the 720 came out, quite a while now.

So get the gps working and add a auto takeoff then you don't need to fly at all. It would make heli flying as interesting as the AR Drone.

                            Not for me.

mmm I remember back in the 80's when they introduced the tail gyro, similar comments were banded about then as well. Its just the same with cars, just because we have ABS, Traction control, brake assist, automatic gearboxes it may make them easier to drive but it also means you can push the envelope of skill to higher limits.

We had 'inverted' switches on our Tx, but only a few people could master it, let alone fly inverted without it. But technology moves on and here we are with inverted flight as part of normal progression.

Things move on but some people get stuck in warp where they believe that new things are threatening what they have achieved already.
