  • BD3-SX on the Agile :)

So glad I put one on this heli last night.

1st flight to set the head gain which is a doddle on the 14SG as you set it to a dial and tweak it while flying Once thats done and the tail is sorted with its gain woohoo, let the fun begin. Activate the Bail out and give it some

Im loving the BavarianDEMON units now as this is now my 3rd heli on them. Well the other 2 are the Helicommand units but they are exactly the same. I feel so confident now with them Im just having so much fun as I can push a little more now without fear of it crashing. I never like to crash as I dont like to see them in bits and have never pushed my flying on because I do not want to put them in and I have never had the flight time on the sticks to progress further so I accepted ages ago that this was it and I was having lots of fun just now I can try different things and not worry about it. Tried to fast piroflips today and I can barely do them anyway but thought it would be fun, lost it big time but just flick that switch and watch it go safely skywards lol

So now I can fly that little bit more on the edge when I do fly safe in the knowledge nothing untoward will happen unless I have a mechanical off course.

I will keep the Vbars for the speeds for now as I not tried these for speed but am happy with how they fly on the Vbar. I just cant get the Vortex to work on the TDR at high speed but will try a BD3 unit 1 day I think as that was what was on the Diabolo S at IRCHA so when I understand more about the unit I will give it a go I think but for now Im having fun which I have not done properly with all my heli's for some time.

What a great time in the hobby with so many good different brand FBL units to choose from

3 units on three models for me too Ben!
All I can say is they fly very well indeed as you know already. And the bail out switch on my 14sg is nearly worn out lol :-) soooooo many saves on my Helis, they have paid for them selfs over and over again!
Saying that I haven't used the bail out for long time till yesterday, that was a 100% tera ferma scenario, but the bail out saved it ones more!

    Great units!

Yea, Im really gelling with the units now. Been a few months so had time to get to grips with them and today after tweaking a few things during setup like the agility and initial response based on past experience I did not change one thing when I plugged it in to set the rigid gain and activate the horizon settings.

People are seeing the easy success Im having with it and now grabbing them too realising how good they fly as Im not good enough to fly around any issues if there were any but lets face it, these have been around for donkeys years so youi would think they wouldnt have any little issues by now lol and they don't, simple stunning and the confidence it gives once you trust that bailout is superb. Just hope my finger is always quick enough to hit it should I need to

lol tree avoidance aside. Does this unit actually avoid a crash at the point you flick the switch? or does it take action if you go below a certain set peramiter? EG can you flip a switch at the last possible moment or does it anticipate your in trouble?

I would imagine only the switch. Imagine how pros would look at this unit if it started bailing out each time an aggressive maneuver brought it too close to the ground

U can flick a switch, and will self level inverted or upright (what ever is nearest). U can also set it to level and climb.

Nice little unit, just really like how my vbar flys at the moment

As above Ron, its on a switch.

I have it set to the momentary switch at the back right of my 14SG so as soon as I get into trouble I hit the switch and it immediately levels and climbs. Regardless of orientation, its goes to whatever is nearest whether that be inverted or upright and climbs. So even if you are pretty close to the ground this can get you in the sky again

Just see James post above. The self level is on a different switch and is not really for rescue as its quite slow. I would say this is more for learning to fly as with this switch on everytime you let go of the cyclic it self levels, this mode you can fly with it on. The rescue/bail out mode is just that, level and skyward.

Anyone using a DX8? I'm having difficulty reaching the trainer button (which I've got programmed for bail-out). I'm considering adding another push button on the left-hand side or rear of my TX or swapping the trainer button for the gear switch, so I can actually access the button and use the function !

Ian, yes got it on the aux 2/Gov switch, position 2 is normal flight, position 1 is self level and position 0 is bail out ( climb & level) You just flick a finger up to activate the switch positions if you fly fingers and thumbs or your thumb if you fly thumbs on the sticks. My percentages set on the governor screen are pos. 0 -50, pos 1 +30' pos 0 0. You can swap these around as you want, if you prefer to fly normally in position in position 0 set this at 0 percent. You can vary the percentage on the self level setting position 1 increase to give more command to the HC3, decrease to give more command to you. The higher the percentage makes the model fly more like a coaxial heli so better self level, hope this helps. I gues this is only if you are not using a governor on the gov swi

I find it curious why other manufacturers dont go down this path... is it more than just firmware?... I mean are any other sensors involved?...

They probably don't want to. The un-crashable heli, not much of a spares market for that is there? . As for upgrading surely all the sensors are there, so it's just a software update to add the functionality.
