USB 3G Link

Received my 3G link cable plus software update from Skyline today. Installed onto laptop and updated to firmware V2.1.

All good so far, and very easy to do.

3G boots up first time every time now which was a pain before. Hopefully take the laptop to the field tomorrow and tinker with the settings.

Like wise, i am intruiged to see what it has to offer on improvements.

I must be one of the lucky ones, as my 700 flies really nice with the only notible change being the Edge FBL blades.

Will be interesting to see others results as they experiment with different settings.

the key things for me that this s/w needs to deliver .......

Sort the tail out so it doesn't continually wag, piro like the second hand on a clock, suddenly decide to just turn 90 degrees on it's own

Sort out the cyclic so that it can be configured to use the blades we want rather than having to buy Edge blades to be nod free.

yep updated mine last night , did put 2 points on the elevator stop gain for the nodding,have to see if it helps, also reset gains to 12 oclock
fully agree with ashley having to use one brand of blades to semi cure nodding, then again they are great blades
tails the biggy, needs to be faster and no more kick outs
tomorrow will tell
be good to see peoples settings in the near future maybe for download

Managed to get four tanks through this afternoon with the upgraded software, and I must say there is huge difference in the way the tail flys now. Much more consistent with piros and no kick, although I had never got a kick from the original set up. I did use to get a cork screw effect when doing high piros and tail slides but this has now gone, and I really think it flys more like a fly barred machine now.

The only real changes I made were to download the default Trex 700 settings which comes with the new software and put the dial pots back to 12 o'clock. More experimenting to do still but a thumbs up at the moment.

I updated the firmware on the 3G unit on my E550 from 2.0 to 2.1 and had a play with the section with instant readings - elevator 284 degrees per second! Initially I had problems connecting with the 3G unit, it found it, said linking and stayed stuck there. It appears that to use the V2.1 configuration software you need to be running V2.1 firmware, the E550 was still on 2.0 and wouldn't connect until I'd flashed the update.

The tail certainly seems much better and I had no problems with the tail kicking through 4 battery packs. There are plenty more settings to play with now but I'm not brave enough to fiddle quite yet

I also updated the 3G unit I've just fitted to my 700N which should get it's trial flight in its new configuration tomorrow.

Just got in from a day's flying, My 3G Link cable has arrived so tonights task is updating my helis.

At least Align don't charge you £25 just for the firmware upgrade, unlike Mikado, just £24 for the lead.

Only difference is that I don't have to buy or use a gyro to replace the one included with the V-Bar at a cost of around £100 just to make the system predictable

How long did it take to transfer the 700 settings to the unit.

I downloaded the instructions first which came as a pdf file and had this open as I updated the software.

It is a bid fiddly as you have to hold down the button on the yellow dongle and then attach the y lead to either the gyro unit or the main unit (Gyro unit first as in the diagrams) to update the firm ware to 2.1.

Once both units are upgraded you can open the 3g software and play around with the settings.

Only took about a couple of minutes to complete.

I then procceded to apply the 500~700 settings to my unit which as I said started but never seems to finish.

Take a look at the screen dump below, In the text it says they are applied, On the right it say's "Transferring.??

Sorry for the slow reply. Trying to multi task. Cooking dinner and having a beer whilst watching BGT.

OK. After updating both main unit and gyro unit, open up the 3G software via the start menu. Ensure both units are connected to the y lead and then to the dongle. Power up the heli (Tx & RX) using your normal receiver pack or flight pack.
Click the link button on screen and the "connected" green message should appear. Click on open settings drop down and choose Trex 700. Then choose update. Should only take a few seconds.
Once completed, power down the heli. Remove all cables and replace the original signal cable between the gyro unit and the main unit.

Power up the heli as normal (Tx & Rx) and go through the set up as per the original 3g set up on the main unit. (50% stick, Elevator-Aileron etc etc)
