  • 3G Problems

Well, I tried everything today to get my 700 to fly, but couldn't even get off the ground. The tail was completely uncontrollable, similar to the violent swing you would get if the gyro was reversed (I thought this was the case on the first flight.....nearly sh*t myself when in span round).

Been through all the setting, checked with other people, everything connect and works as it should (tilting swash, gyro response etc). Tried high gains, low gains, still just violent swinging or rotation.

One thing though, on a couple of occasions after cutting the motor and walking out to the heli, I picked up the model and there was no repsonse when tilting the model, either on the swash of the gyro, but all the controls worked normally ??. Switch everything off, turn on, it runs through its set up and everything is ok again ??.

I was really looking forward to flying this, but I'm not really sure what to do next. Missed a great days flying with a model which has up to now been perfect.

    Not impressed so far.

Have you tried re-doing the setup procedure? centring the swash etc, setting the limits and directions, then try again. Mine worked flawlessly first time (bar the stripping main gear!).

Did all that, seemed perfectly stable on the head, but it could swing in any direction just as it got light on the skids. Tried it in HH and rate mode, made no difference.

To be honest, the thing that really worried me was when it stopped responding ??

I did notice that The gain had to be WAY higher than with the futaba gy520. It was on about 40 points (using end points on the dx7), but on the fbl, i had to up it to something like 65. The tail was rock solid tbh!

Well, I tried it first on 75% (I'm on a DSX9), then dropped it down to 40 and tried it up at 90, but the tail was still uncontrollable.

Will get back in touch with Matty-rex and find out where he bought it from. I really don't trust it, and judging by the number of club member who were watching from the club house, I guess I'm not on my own !!.

Shame to have a bad experience first time out, but I really can not see where I've made a mistake.
                Cheers,

                    Hey Simon.

I'm sorry to hear you've not had any luck getting airbourne with the FBL setup to have fun with it.

The worrying thing here is that you mention on walking back to the model the gyros didnt seem to respond at all, which is very worrying. Now and I dont know if this is your problem or not, but in another forum I read about a guy who found that one of the crimped connectors on the lead which attaches mixer to gyro sensors was open not making full contact on the connector pins. It looked like the end which slides over the pins was too spread open and hence not making good contact.
It might be worth you looking into your own lead to see if both ends are ok, apparently you can gently peel back the rubber boot and extract the pins in a similar mannor as you would a normal servo crimped on plug assembly.

With this ruled out then the next thing is setup, but as you have said you've gone through and set it up correctly then this can be side stepped but it would still need checking.
                    .

Why would I need to re-bind it ??. I will check the lead, but without touching anything, a switch off and on would get everything working again.
                      Cheers,
                      Simon

Been through the complete set up again. To be honest, I still can't see anything different this time, to when I flew it earlier. The swash and the tail react as you would expect.

I was running with the short lead, so swapped for the longer one just in case that's a problem. Otherwise, I can't see any reason why this shouldn't work.

I'm down in Kent Weds/Thurs next week if anyone fancies meeting up to have a look at it (don't think I will get a chance to try it again tomorrow or Tuesday).

                        Cheers,

I will be in Bromley. Time not an issue as I'm on half term being a teacher. Happy to travel in the evening if someone with some experience fancies trying to spot my obvious mistake.

                            Cheers,

I had no end of problems setting my 500 up" problem turned out to be pitch trim on left side of my DSX9, you need to do a complete TX reset then in system setup, device select" 'pitch' set to INH this will disable it then setup ccpm etc, then connect heli at same time hold 3g set button.
setup your function mode & heli mechanics, once you know everything it set right then program the 3g, the default 3g gain is 12 o'clock turn the both to about 9 o'clock. then setup your tail end mechanics, then should be okay to test fly.

Today's outlook is fine for flying.
