  • setting up a fl760

hi all im trying to set up a 3g on a 250 and to be honest its 90% guess work (I have huge trouble with instructions) I don't understand any of it

ive tried to follow what I can and have just done a rough start i.e by eye as I have no tools for the 250. I think the best art works but tail set up I go through it (seems u have to be quick at remembering) or u have to keep starting again spool it up and tail is 100% dead? confused.

also whilst setting up speed control gets hot while in hold. is that normal?

I know being as stupid as I am when it comes to manuals and stuff I guess I should just go get a vx1n lol but after paying rent I just dunno if I can manage it

what do you lot think shelf heli sell 3g until I can afford Spartan or is there a real simple idiots guide any help would be awesome as you know what its like when ya get a new toy :P

    cheers terry

    Hi Terry.

When it comes to setup, specifically levelling the swash plate, I do so by eye. You just need to find the reference points to help you make sure it is level when at mid stick.

Do you have the tail wires coming out of the 3G's main box plugged in correctly? The 3G has separate circuits for the cyclic servos and the tail control & single gain wire.

Most ESC's with built-in BEC@s you will find get a little warm during use, I have found them to get more so if they are on the ground and you are not moving many servos at once to make use of the power the BEC is delivering. So unless it's so warm you cannot keep your finger on the ESC I wouldn't worry.

There are videos on YouTube that walk you though the 3G setup, more precisely the DIR setup mode you need to enter to setup collective/cyclic limits and FBL gyro directions.
To be honest I would just read through the manual a few times and follow that through step by step, as it is quite simple once you've done it. I cannot remember for sure if the PC software also has a walk through section that you click through step by step while following it. It's been a while since I've setup a 3G, but I know the 3GX does for instance.
I may have to reinstall the PC software to refresh on this.

Personally I'd say stick with the 3G for now, I think if you're struggling with this a Vortex may be worse as there is more options to go through, although it has it's own interface unit that helps.

If you get stuck give me a shout with your questions and I'll do my best to help.

        Hey Buddy.

Ah, so you know the Vortex. In this case the 3G will be very different, not more difficult as such just a different approach to setting it up. For the basics you won't need a PC, but to then tune the flight feel better one will be needed. I have a lot of settings for the 3G, so I am sure my 450 ones will suit the 250 nicely eliminating a lot of messing around.

With the tail, I'm assuming that while you where in the tail gyro menu (press and gold set button while powered) that the tail worked as required, but out of DIR it's dead?

Keep at it as I am sure you will find it ok once setup and flying.

                Hi Terry,

I guess maybe a silly question, but you have got the blue rudder sensitivity wire pluged into your gyro gain channel on the receiver ? Otherwise it probably won't do anything as the gain will be to low.

If you get stuck you're welcome to come over to my place as I've got the 3GX dongle etc and experience of setting them up. Looks like I'm about 26miles away from you.

If it's tipping it's almost certainly the swash isn't level. Or if you're running V3.0 you might need to go up to V3.1 or V4.0. You may find a quick take off will avoid the tipping if the swash is level.

Just one more thought over time my old 3G unit often starts to tip and re-running the initial Elevator / Aileron setup usually fixes it and of course your trims need to be zero as well

I used to have 3G on my old 250se & flew really well but you do need to set the gain pots first to get a steady lift off, then adjust parameters to suit your flight.
It's important to be sure swash is level at all 3 stages of neg, zero & poss with least amoung of sub trim before going through dir setup, then when in dir set elev & aile between 9 & 10 degrees cyclic & if you've got the tail sorted the heli will fly nice.

The headspeed on a 250 is a bit scary isn't it. I had a servo motor go on a HK-250 at work when I was testing it and it hit the window sill so fast I couldn't catch it ! Made a lovely mess of the head an bent the boom too.

I think the 3GX is a bit of an aquired taste, but they can work really well once setup. Any way have fun and I hope too see you again next year.
