LHS Fuel Availabilty

Hi guys

I wanna go buy some fuel today and the stock at my LHSes is somewhat limited. The nearest two to me only seem to have:

• Blue Thunder (at varying %ages)
• Bekra (at varying %ages)
• Optifuel car fuel (at 25 & 30%)
• Byron race fuel (at varying %ages)

Are any of these any good? Or should I drive further afield and see if I can find something more suitable?

Why not try mail order, min 4 gallons like Rapicon or the like then you can always use the same brand, I am sure once you start flying your nitro you will go through it quickly.

Get yourself some Magnum/Optifuel or Rapicon bought Martin.

I would say 20% will be plenty good enough at your stage until you start ripping the thing to bits.

Either that or persuade you local store to stock the fuel you want My local shop now stocks Optifuel Optimix 20%, mainly as I buy a couple of cases off him at a time, plus I get it post free as he can order a minimum quantity to get free shipping.

Don't forget though, fire regulations can play a major part in exactly what sort of quantity the shop can keep in stock, they need to stock a mix to suit the heli, plane & car boys so may not be able to stock large quantities of any of it.

If you're stuck for this weekend the Bekra is okay, a bit of an old formula these days but still works reasonably well although I prefer to stick to one fuel, not chop and change as you have to re-tune the engine every time.

You won't go wrong with Bekra 16% or there abouts, and it's kind to your engine bearings.

I am about to go to Wings n wheels with the kids Hoping to pick up a bottle of Optifuel 20% while there, currently use Magnum 20% and have done for ages but would rather support UK companies especially (well only really) when its highly rated

Mart, you are welcome to use some of my Magnum 20% (and/or optifuel if I get it) tomorrow at the field

I usually pop over (about 1 hour) from me/you to Skyline to get my Magnum, dont think they stock Optifuel but I could be wrong - didnt see it last time I was there... think i asked as well...

I guess it wouldn't hurt me to try the Bekra 20 eh? If I do get on with it, Addlestone Models, which is only about 3 miles from my office, stocks it.

yes, I will try to get there fairly early - must remember to charge the old girl up tonight though whats the flying hours for a Sunday? think its 12:00-16:00 and I dont fancy rocking the boat breaking rules due to the recent issues with losing the field!

Running Bekra 20 won't be a problem, best to richen up a few clicks to start and check engine temps. If anything, higher nitro makes tuning easier as you get a broader range where it's near enough plus a little more power.

I know it's mad but I'm off to Sussex Model Helicopters. They have loads of Optifuel 20 in stock and also an Align pitch gauge I need.
