  • Which fuel?

Right guys im just about to order a box of fuel ready for the maiden of my 700 (hopefully some time this week). Question is which fuel should i order? Ive mostly used magnum 20/30% up to now and loved the stuff. Unfortunately we all know the ins/outs of the magnum situation right now. Ive recently tried Curtis Wildcat 3DLV which i gotta admit was'nt as good. Im thinking about purchasing Rapicon... any one have any comments? What would you guys recommend?
The free postage on the Rapicon is looking good. Whats this stuff like? Is it smokey like magnum? Does it leave crap on your exhaust? Whats the power like from it?
Do these guys look as if there gonna be about for a while? Sometimes i feel like we chop and change fuel constantly. Just when i thought id found a good fuel (Magnum) and then its bloody hard to get a hold of it.
    Cheers

Most of the people I know Lee are changing over to optifuel and tbh m8e when I used up my store of magnum I will be as well .... Full UK gallon as well which does it for me .. A little bit more money than some of them out there but the people I seen using it seem happy with it m8e .. This is for 50 size helis << just thought I would let ya know ...

see magnum 30 is great in 50's and 90's, is the optifuel? I heard its expensive as hell. I dont want to be paying over the knock for fuel, this hobbys expensive enough. And how long will these be around before something happens and we have to change again. Im getting a bit sick of it to be honest. You find a good fuel then something happens like the company goes bust or it cant be imported or its hard to get a hold of. Quite annoying really.

          alrite lee how you doing?

i recently got a gallon of byron heli 30 % from trexmad! seems spoton!
was using magnum 30 but made the change as couldnt get it anywhere
slightly dearer than magnum at 27 for a gallon, but seems to produce little bit more poke than the magnum, smokes not much difference, but does seem to leave a bit more residue around the heli than magnum did!all in all very happy with it and will be getting some more!simon seems to think stock wont be a problem !!

OptiFuel is in 5 litre bottles not 3.87 like magnum so you get 20 litres of fuel for your money

Seen it in action at the club and I have to say very very nice fuel

No worries m8e .... this is the thing with running 90 size helis is always the fuel costs lol... Like you say I think a few of us are getting annoyed that we are getting ripped all the time and having to change for this reason and that.. Me I always used WC CY30 before all the hassle so i bought case of 4 magnum 30 thats still not used yet lol... 2 more tanks left for the WC then its on to magnum.....
Have to remember Lee that the optifuel is a full uk gallon and not a US gallon ...

I bought a box of 30% Rapicon (4 gallon) and let all the lads try it on Sunday to hear their thoughts.

I have to report we all usually use Magnum 30% and to be honest thought the Rapicon delivered more power and a little less smoke although not much.

Needle settings remained the same too.

                  Can highly recommend it Lee.

I have 2 gals of mag 20% and one of Mag 30%. Pretty soon I think I'll order a box of 30% rapicon while I have the magnum left to compare it with. The price difference is a good excuse to get 30% rather than 20%

i've been looking to change fuel aswell but only looking at 30%

optifuel assuming my LHS gets it in (unlikely) =£5.99 per litre

optifuel assuming need to pay postage =£6.49 per litre

magnum assuming my lhs gets it (they do) =£5.55 (bulk discount avail £5 per litre)

rapicon has "free" delivery =£5.25 (bulk discount maybe option)

bekra from LHS =£6.31 (£4.73 if bought in bulk)

                      wildcat LV =£5.50

just for peoples info. a uk gallon is 4.55 litres and a usa gallon contains 3.78 uk litres.

                      optifuel is 5 litres.
                      magnum is 3.78 litres.
                      rapicon is 4 litres
                      bekra is 4.55 litres.
                      wildcat is 3.78 litres.

                      cheers

                        How much constitutes bulk?
Optifuel told me negaotiations apply over 6 boxes, and for 25 boxes you get free delivery.
I wonder how much you can store legally in a domestic garage?
I presume anyone buying 25 boxes is spreading them among their mates pretty quick!

                          bulk depends on the supplier.

my LHS takes 10% off a box of magnum reguardless if we are regulars etc which is superb.

bekra is 20 gallons i believe and get 25% discount i'm reliably told.

rapicon i think is 10 boxes but would need to confirm with them as hear say.

a mate of mine is sponsored by optifuel, looks decent enough to me but it's far too expensive is only downside for me so i'm looking at perhaps bulk buying magnum or rapicon.

                          cheers

from watching it definatly match's up to magnum, not sure wat its like to fly with...
