Seems like my preferred fuel Rotor Rage 15% is going to be out of stock for a few months. On a YS120 it runs great but now needing a new fuel.

What do you run on that and experiences?

Leaning towards Opti naturally as its in stock everywhere but should I go OH2020 for the higher oil or OH2018.

    Comments welcome.

    Also OS105 thoughts as well.

    Cheers,

    MJ

    Hi

I use the oh2018 seems to work great and quite cheap too... can be a bit smokey at times when going from flying fast to 3d but this is most likely tuning.

Model Technics Coptamix 15, 20 or 30, or Bekra if you want a bit more engine protection. But, I my experience, there's nowt wrong with Coptamix.

MT fuels are made in the UK and distributed by the biggest name in the game, which means that they are available from just about any local hobby store, and within a day or two if they don't have any stock. Your local RC shop will be able to get in what you want very quickly.

I've been using Coptamix 20% for years now direct from the factory in Southend, and it's the right fuel at the right price. Also works great in my 4-stroke plane engines.

Why is there a shortage on most fuels? Any reason for this?

I've been using Opti 20 for five years now and once your used to the tuning it runs fine. My os fifty had one new back bearing in four years of non stop abuse and still looked brand new on the piston and liner 5 months ago when I last had it out to replace one of my clutch stack bearings.

in my 120 I originally used used opti 20, switched to rapicon 20 which made a hell of a difference making it run a lot smoother with no power loss. Not easy to get hold of though so have been using a special blend of opti 20 with more oil content, 22% if I remember rightly and its even better on that. Bloody pricey though at around £130 for a box.

The Rotor Rage 15% that we've all been using with such success in all our engines has 21% oil content so the Opti 20% with 20% oil looks to be the closest mix for the right money and for a similar price we've paid for RR per box we'll end up with almost 5lts extra of the Opti 20/20 (RR comes in 3.78ltr bottles as opposed to 5ltr) that's a massive difference with the amount of fuel we get through!

That is expensive fuel...I have been paying £80 a box from Colin Bliss models for the last 2-3 years...I do change bearings regularly as I dont like bearings that have done more than about 10-12 bottles of fuel...

Having Magnum Center Glide bearings fitted would be a good solution if you change bearings that often, lifetime warranty with them!

Are you changing the bearings because they need changing John or because you just like to change them that often?

I must have put 30 gallons through my YS120 and the engine is still in perfect condition using Rotor Rage so want to make the right decision when we change to a different fuel.

I never really count how many 5ltr bottles have been used but I would say about 10-12..the last bearing was shot worse bearing I have ever taken out of an engine...normally they just feel a bit notchy and look well stained...after flying I just leave the engine as it is...I have tried burning the duel off etc...but I think that only gives me a lean run for a short time on run up the next time I use the engine...I think this maybe where the bearings are getting worn the few moments it takes for the engine too settle after starting...I use SKF bearings as well as they are half decent...I could use a stainless bearing but to be honest it takes me an hour too change them using the puller I have...and having the motor out gives me a chance too have a good clean up and do a check...sitting here I can see some old bearings in a tray and in the hut at the field there are some more laying around LOL...I just treat them as a would a glow plug.....
