I spent the next half hour or so carefully yanking the crap out o.... hang on, I mean carefully easing it back out of the engine. Finally got the sucker out but had swarfe to clean up now - joy!
Dropped the engine out again, cleaned it all up thoroughly, and the carb, then fitted it all together again and stuffed it back together.
Not an enjoyable night all told - especially when you realise the whole exercise was pointless and I must have been hearing things on Sunday

Still, it was fiddling with heli's and thats what I like
    LOL
    Cheers,
    Rob
yup same here pulled it apart for nowt hunting issues were down to a dodgey throttle servo i think ....the bearings are as smooth a silk and its clean as a whistle inside
    cheers Lee

Well mate, the engine looked good except have decided to replace to piston ring as small section has detached from the end. It is still floating in the groove so was lucky.
New ring 15 squid and arrived today so in it goes!
That may explain why she smoked so much when put the magnum 30 in!
Be like a new engine now

Nutz - take the old ones to these people - they'll give you knew ones over the counter and they're cheap and reliable.

                http://uk.local.yahoo.com/entity.htm...don&p=bearings

Theyre called orbic, and they also do threadlock, bearing lock, gasket compound etc etc. And they have a car park!

I always use Orbic off Sumner Rd, They matched the mciro heli oneways for me as the part no on them are for Japan market only, they are a lot better than the Align ones, I bought a few (gotta have some spare).

Seeing as I got a replacement engine for the time being I am not in a rush to fix the old one. But at some point I will pop the old bearings out and chuck in some new ones.

What is the best way to remove them, 10 minutes at Gas Mark 8?
Also should I replace the ring while I am at it?

                    what webbing?
At the fat end of the crank, where the con rod connects, there is a sort of V shape to the bulkier part of the crank. However, the thing is made into a complete circle shape due to the thin machined metal piece outside of this V shaped thicker part (it's all one part, you understand...)

You can carefully remove the circular shape of the thinner area, taking it back to the edges of that thicker V area with careful grinding.

It's hard to explain without an image - but I could post one later to show an unmodified crank

                    Cheers,
                    Rob

Stick the engine in a hot oven on a baking tray
Leave it for a few minutes and you should hear a clunk as the back bearing drops out.
Remove from the oven and tap the case to get the top bearing to fall out too.
When it's hot, they come out quite easily.

While thats cooking you should put the crank in the freezer - this helps with getting the new back bearing in place on the crank, then with the hot engine case, and the freezing cold crank fitted with new back bearing, you can easily drop the crank into the engine case and it should slot home perfectly.

                      Cheers,
                      Nigella

I forgot to mention, you'll want to freeze both bearings too - and slot the front one in before fitting the crank.

                          Cheers,

there is really no need to do the crank mod any more. the bearing problems in the sxh were down to a lean midrange beating the bearing to death with detonation.

hyper doesnt suffer this it just wears em out over a reasonable length of time. Unless you run it lean then you can kill em quickly.

I must admit - I know what the mod is and how to do it, but I have not actually done it on either of the two Hypers I've had.

I just get so much power out of them it seems a bit redundant.
I wasn't aware of the reason though, so thanks, Ade, for explaining that

Still worried about Rob explaning how to fit bearing while wearing silk underwear, talking in a breathless voice and licking his fingers
I prefer Nigella for sure even though I've never seen Rob
So my 50SX-H I should run it a bit rich to avoid the lean spot in the middle (where its going to do a lot of hovering about to begin with!).
Is there a particular fuel that will make it last better? (just about to order a case of fuel).

nutz, care to share the part number of the trex/x400 one way bearing? I just actually dug the one way bearing out of an old x400 main gear to fit to my trex and I'm now out of spares. Running 14-15T on the motor means it never strips the main gear (so far) just destroys the one way bearing instead. Now done three one ways on the same main gear.
