  • YS 56 SR Arrived!!!

    Hi All,

For those of you that are keen to get your hands on the New YS 56 SR this might be of interest to you.

Today I picked up one of these motor's from 'Probuild'. Below are a few piccy's i've taken of the motor straight out of the box and just before installation into my trusty Trex 600 SNP

First impressions is typically YS. Good quality!!! Well packaged very similar to the 91. Looks very similar to the 50 apart from the difference to the carb. This one has 3 needles although only looks like it has two. The low needle is next to the throttle arm. I will be setting this up as per the manual for the first 2-3 tanks (as recommended by the manual) then will start see what power I can get out of it.

I'm running a Hatori pipe also supplied by Probuild. The pipe (562) is recommended for the trex 600n but not the 3D pipe(566). Unfortually they had just sold the last one. Hopefully will get one in the next batch.

Hope this is of interest to you guys

    Cheers Matt

This is the engine I've been waiting for - would go a treat in the Vibe 50 I think.

Just can't justify splashing the cash at the moment as all my helis have engines, although I haven't run the SDX yet.......

    Looks good.

Well the 50ST does, as do all other YS engines, both two and four stroke.

I wouldn't expect anything else from YS.

Yep, Pressurizes like the 91 and the other YS's do.

Just finishing putting it into my 600 and hopefully will get it run in tomorrow.

Just finished the install to the 600. I had to trim the fan casing slightly to clear the carb intake and cylinder head. 2 second job though.

Just got to finish up by connecting the fuel lines and putting the throttle linkage together.

Windy tomorrow but I have got a nice sheltered place near me to fly Will get it run in and hopefully report back tomorrow.

            Cheers Matt

Just been out and put 3 tanks through then rain stopped play.

The manual settings are spot on for the run in setup allowing it to run nice and rich.

                  Bloody rain

                    Ok,

Upto to flight 13 now so starting to eek some more power from this engine. Yesturday was basicly running in day. I reframed from trying to get the most of it, but today it as really started to come alive. Just put another quick 5 flights on it this morning to so what it could do. Baring in mind I have got the 562 pipe (F3C), I can get an lot of power out of it. Percentage wise I reckon so far between 10% and maybe 15% more. I speaking with honestly here. Maybe the 566 pipe would give even more.

The running of the YS is very consistent as I expected. Haven't so far notice a great flight time shortage at all which I thought I might. Still early days though but the power is considerable more indeed!!

A couple of things I want to mention.

1, ATM when I drop the engine back to idle, if I blip the throttle it starts to race slightly. I think this is because I'm slightly lean on the bottom end. Will try changing that later today.

2, My method of tuning with this engine is. Simply use the stock settings for runnning it in. Then lean the top end out and test in full power climb outs and CHECK engine temp!!, then to get the power wind the mid range in. (that's the fun bit)

3, Info on pipe choice. Whist speaking the the chaps at Probuild I asked could I run a 50 size pipe on it. The answer was yes but with a word of warning. With a 2 stroke engine, the pipe length and volume is crictical. If you change any of these factors the pipe will lose some of the ability to dispell the exhaust gas there create too much back pressure which 2 strokes don't like. This will then heat the head up!!!! So care on the tuning would have to be taken. Fair enough comment I reckon.

Hopefully will be going out again this afternoon and may get a video

Hope this info is of use to you

Its a shame you fly a different mode to Matt, or you could give my 600 with the OS55 a shot and see how the two compare.

Managed to get 4 tanks through it yesterday, so i should be able to start leaning it out a bit when i next get to fly.

I am sure your tips on tuning will come in handy!

                          Yep Aidi,

As Pete said, buddy lead is the way. That way we don't have to rebind and I can just fly your setup. We can also do it the other way round as well.

Mid week next week is good for me, how about you?
                          Cheers Matt

Great info here, look forward to a bit of video

Also any comparison to the OS thoughts would be good.

I am so impressed with my 91 SR in the 700,my first heli YS engine but i did have a couple of plane ones, that i was torn between the 56 SR or the OS but price for me won over and i went for the OS(imported).

But my 2nd 600N may be in line for a new engine and the YS is so on the shopping list for this one.
