I was also thinking of xnovas for a 6 inch build in a couple of months. But the first person I talked to about them said they were like tin foil. That person was Like Bannister.
Another said one of his was dead out of the box and took out an esc. Hardly what you want to hear about premium brand mirrors.

I'm still keeping an eye on people's opinion of them, but I'm lookout closely at the cobra 2206 racing edition motors. I already have two sets of 2300kv ones and I'm very happy with them.
Current fleet: Goblin Thunder Sport (700), Trex 700L, Logo 600, Specter 700, Henseleit TDR, V-Baaa control.
Next heli: I have pretty much everything I want. Maybe I'll upgrade some electronics or something.

Maybe I was lucky, but I've not experienced any of those issues.

I originally looked at the racing editions, but was put off by their apparently poor efficiency and heavy amp draw. Too much reading as usual I guess.

What motors / ESCs did you go for SK? RC legends have a 'package' consisting 2204-2300 motors, 12A ESCs and props that I'm leaning towards because basically I don't know any better. This quad will not be used for racing but will be loaded with GPS, FPV kit and possibly a GoPro so it will be a tad heavier than the norm.

I must admit, I haven't really looked at current draw for any of the motors I'm considering. All I want, is to be able to swing 6x4.5 (or 5x4.5x3 bull nose) props at an alarming rate without cooking the ESC or motor.
That means using 30A escs for 4S, and motors with a KV between 1900 and 2100, that can take about 370W peak without melting.

One thing has become clear to me since fly mini quads, and that's that battery tech is the limiting factor when it comes to the speed these things can go.

@Euclid. Do you know what batteries (cell count and size) you will be running?

12A ESCs are only good for 3S if running normal 5" or 6" props.
For 4S, you generally want 20A+ ESCs for 5" props as the current really ramps up as you get towards full throttle.
Don't worry about weight if you're going to run 4S. It will have plenty of poke, even carrying that little lot.

I've quite a few 3S 2200 that are used elsewhere so the plan is to use those with 6" props providing everything else works together. Out and out speed is not a requirement for this build.

12a will be fine, unless you plan on moving to 4s in future.
2300kv motors in a 2204 size will be ideal, and 6x45 props will liven a heavy quad up enough to be fun.

Thanks for your advice bigpops. I'm looking forward to this build which given my track record will take the better part of the summer.

I seem to have started on a slippery slope...

Got this off eBay, it's running on Spektrum but I don't have a spektrum TX so I either need to put a bar Neo on it or get myself a Tx to fly it with.

It's got a 3s pack with it and running 12A Afro ESCs. Shame as by the sound of it 4s is a no go on it without buying new ESCs?
