I bought a clone park fly rx from a certain online uk shop and received what looked like a genuine spektrum rx. I compared it to a real one and I couldn't tell the difference. They cost a fiver each instead of the 35 for a genuine one. They worked ok but I wouldn't have trusted it in anything nice.

It was great for sim stick...

I did the same and compared it with six other AR6100e I had in small helis and shockies. I knew that the others were genuine as they had come from a local model shop , in a Blade 400 or direct from HH as part of a 2 for 1 offer. I was surprised that amongst the genuine rx's there were at least three different types even though they were all the same V 1.6. Aerial wire colour, print size and colour, different wording and positioning all varied. Out of the case I looked at the component, layout and production quality under x10 magnification and couldn't tell the difference. Performance wise exactly the same.

I put it down to the factory in china that produces Spektrum rx's had a bigger production capacity than Spektrum demand and was filtering the excess into the market through the " back door".

Further to my above post. We all know of the famous /infamous. " Orange" 2.4 DSM2 compatible that is disclaimed by seller as " not a Spektrum rx" that has been sold in the thousand worldwide. Inside the orange case there seems very little to differentiate between the orange and the ar6100 pcb. The orange rx only has one aerial , but it has a detent and pad to fit the other aerial ( it has been known for a while that with the ar6100 if the right aerial falls off you still have good range because the ground plane is still there on pcb)
The orange rx has a socket for a satalite rx. But there are pad on the ar6100 to solder a socket .

Could it be that horizon Hobbies don't have a real problem with " Orang" rx's , could the even be a market strategy? They will be gaining more than they are loosing. You don't have to be in a local model shop too long before someone comes in looking for a radio set. The conversation goes :- " I like Futaba but the rx's are so expensive. The Hitec isn't too bad but there again rx's aren't too cheap and not many people use the so no buddie boxing. It looks like its got to be a Spektrum . I know a few people have had issues but you need DSM2 etc for the MSR , MCPX, Blade 130x, Sukhoi, etc ......etc oh and of course you can get a hand full of them Orange rx's for the price of one rx from the others, just right for indoor and park flyers.

Once the tx has been sold HH know that they are going to make loads on there other items. Once they have hooked the new customer , weather he be a heli pilot or the vastly greater number of plank flyer he has them for life. That canny DX6i buyer that buys the cheap and dare I say nasty tx so he can use the give-away price £3 clone rx has well and truly been hooked. HH know that quickly many modellers will find it uneconomic to buy else-where and they will make big bucks on their almost complete range of models, upmarket Txs and equipment.

If HH could buy Align . They could well and truly corner the market completely!

Is it on ebay being sold as new and is it cheaper than buying from a reputable dealer if the answer is yes to both then it's a fake

Is this a fake? They've got 9961 of them in stock whatever they are!

I think the answer is obvious, but no doubt some uk eBay dealers will buy a few and list them accordingly.

I don't have a problem with HK selling Orange DSM2 compatible rx's , cause they are openly what they are, clones, and you can use them as you see fit. It appears that they are approve by an Australian organisation as suitable. Anything that is counterfeit is a total unknown for performance etc is a danger to use in many cases . Not because they don't work at all but because the unsuspecting flyer is using with the same confidence he expects from the original.

That's what I got delivered expecting to receive a blank clone it was a complete rip off of the original.
The only thing that gives it away is the fact that spektrum haven't sold that model for a good 2 years.

There were some fake AR6100s that had a zero (0) rather than an "O" in the word THRO for throttle - I can't see if yours does though ...

Well the guys been made to remove them from sale. Just got an email from eBay saying that he'd breached one or more of there policies so he's no longer aloud to sell them! Looks like I wasn't the only person to pipe up about them then!
