  • Spektrum advice

    Hi all,

ive decided to come back to RC Helis after being away for 5 years, I wasn’t very good when I gave up but can’t shift the bug so I’m back. I’m looking at buying a new Spektrum radio and it’s between a DX6 or DX8, they both look identical in specs except for the obvious extra 2 channels. I am looking at buying a Trex 500X combo so will have the beast X controller, my question is do I need 8 channels for the beast x or can I do everything I will need with a 6 channel radio?

    cheers
    Nick

One difference you may have overlooked is that the DX6 comes with AA batteries while the higher models have rechargeable batteries c/w charger. If you add the rechargeable battery upgrade to the DX6 it makes up most if not all of the cost difference.
6 channels will operate the Microbeast ok but increasingly FBL controllers come with added features like bank switching, stabilisation and rescue and for that its best to have an extra channel or two.

You have to bare in mind you can only use one satelite reciever on beastx with spektrum unless you putrchase a seperate single line receiver like the ar7700

        Thanks guys,

I think the DX8 is the way to go, I had completely overlooked the battery situation with a DX6, id much rather use a plug in charger than have to keep charging AA batteries.

Thanks again, can’t wait to get airborne again!!

take a look at frsky, if you want cheap the qx7s is excellent, gives telemetry so you can set alarms on voltages and get a current sensor which will tell you how many MAH you pull from the battery so you never over discharge. the programing on opentx is different to what you will be used to but once you understand the philosophy its incredibly powerful.

if you want to spend more the x9d or the x10s are both awesome radios.

In the end I bit the bullet and ordered a new DX9, I had a DX8 before I sold up a few years ago and really liked it, I think I’m definitely a Spektrum man at heart. Just a shame there is a shortage of decent transmitter cases on the market these days :-(
