  • Dx7 Dx7s Dx7se pros and cons?

Can anyone with experience of these txs give their opinion on the pros and cons of each please?
    thanks.

I have had a Dx7s just over a year including lots of use on the SIM and its not missed a beat. I can't fault it. Loads of memory slots for heli & plank with memory card support for even more storage, built in telemetry (if you put telemetry on your heli). Gimbals still seem good, user interface is easy and sensible, comfortable to hold.

Don't really think there are any serious cons as long as you do not need more than 7 channels, although I would go for the new Dx9 if I was in the market for a new Tx as it has some nice extras.

Let's see if I can remember all this correctly

DX7 & DX7se are a JR built radio with Spektrum DSM2 but not DSMX (unless it was sent in for a paid upgrade), both have two idle-up modes.
DX7se has no trainer socket but supports 2048/11ms link to suitable receivers. Firmware cannot be updated by the user and programming is adequate but not particularly flexible.

DX7S is fully Spektrum built and has both DSM2 and DSMX support, and supports 2048/11ms link, but does not have idle-up 2 and has fewer 3 position switches than either the DX7 or DX7se. Firmware can be updated by the user.

So in short, DX7, DX7se have better build quality and more idle-up modes but only DSM2 and less flexible programming.

The DX7S has better programming and can be updated by the user, but build quality although perfectly fine, is not as robust as the DX7/7SE.

One other consideration though, Spektrum have been revamping the product line recently and there is a pattern that bears some thought.

The newly announced DX6 along with updated DX10t and DX18 and the current DX9 all share the same code-base and can swap model files and have voice alerts and some other common features.

The DX7S and DX8 are not part of that group and cannot share model files directly. To be honest that would not bother me hugely but it is worth noting at least.

Buying brand new right now I'd probably favour either the new DX6 or the DX9 according to your needs, buying 2nd hand they are all good options at the right price.

Thanks for that, very concise. One last question, will a Jr Dsx9 bind to a Beastx AR7200bx?
        thanks.

Yes, but if you use a satellite it must be a DSMX satellite even though you are only binding in DSM2 mode.

Also, that is a Spektrum AR7200BX, it used BeastX tech. but it is not made by them.

I've been using my old JR with a 2.4 module so I am heavily into DSM2. I assume I can just simply switch to a DX7S or DX8?

Yep, but consider the 9 overthe 8. Both Tx's will broadcast in DSM2

Trouble is, as always, the more I look the more I go up the cost ladder. I am currently running out of model slots. The new DX6i can take lots but I think I like having a 7th channel. There area few cheapish used DX7 around now too.

Until a week or so ago I used the DX7 and didn't see any reason to change. A chance visit to Heli Guru and a look at the 9 and I was sold, sold the DX7 the next day to a club member. Great Tx.

Just to be confusing, the new one is a DX6 not a 6i

If I was buying new now I'd be choosing between the DX6, DX9, DX10t or the new DX18 when it arrives, I wouldn't be buying the DX7S or DX8.

Main reason being that Spektrum have a common software platform on all those radios, but not on the DX7S and DX8.

2nd hand of course the DX7S and DX8 remain great options, I just wouldn't buy a new one.

Jumping from DX6 to DX9 leaves quite a gap. Nothing wrong with DX7S or DX8. Get the best you can afford. In my experience the DX7S was a massive step up from the DX6i (old version not the swanky (and expensive) new version).

Is £145 expensive for a Tx(including an Rx), what would you compare it too offering the same functionality

+1 on the dx9, had mine 2 months and think it's amazing, but just to throw a spanner in the works, they now do a new dx6i, in black and write up is very good. Have a look on the spektrum web site for stats on all tx's, but dx9 will take some beating. IMO

As I mentioned above, the new one is a DX6, not a DX6i

Sometimes I think they are trying to confuse us.
