  • Upgrade from DX7 to DX7S

I'm thinking of upgrading from DX7 to DX7S. For telemetry, DSM2 and DSM-X, throttle activated timer and SD card. I was thinking of about £70 for the old DX7 which has a LiFe battery fitted. Does this sound about right? Is there anything on the DX7S that I should know about?

I did just that a while back (but I am still flying with the DX7 and just use the 7S on the sim so far). At first I was a bit put off by the crude looking graphics in the 7S but at the end of the day it's about the function first.

If you're used to using both idle-up modes on the 7, you only have one on the 7S so just your normal mode and one idle-up, but there are a number of ways to use other switches to get another throttle setting etc. so it would only be an issue if you really make thorough use of both idle-up modes.

Yeah the DX7S only has the two Idle settings, which I wasn't aware of when I first bought mine. However I don't see it as an issue at all, I see no need to switch between headspeeds at all. I certainly wouldn't upgrade to the DX8, I'd happily upgrade to the new DX9 or the DX18

Yeah it's no biggie for me because the only time I use more than one idle-up it's only the headspeed that changes as I leave everything else the same. So on some of the electric helis I want a low headspeed 'stunt mode' with idle-up and full pitch range and then the idle-2 switch for the full-on ballistic headspeed and this would be easy to get using another switch on the 7S. I have mainly just been lazy about moving over all my model settings so I can start flying with it.

I did the upgrade from dx7 to 7s and regret i didnt just go for the dx8. With not having a 3 position idle switch it gets annoying having to go from hover headspeed to full 3d head speed n nothing in between

Does the DX7s work in DSM2. I thought it did, but perhaps that's only for an upgraded DX7. I have some DSM2 stuff. mcx and msr and rxs as well.
