  • Not good news for Hitec Aurora 9 users:

See: Latency test and ref to ‘over the pond’ review:

RunRyder RC Helicopter Topic - TX/RX eCCPM Latency Test Results - Page 1

To summerise the latency in ccpm is very slow, 5x that of a 10c, which resulted in a top heli basher noticing the difference, it also only has a resolution of 1024. Pity I near bought one based on the menu system alone!

The 10c in hs mode comes out top, no surprise there. Why didn’t I buy one, you can’t assign all the channel outputs, coz I’m lazy with my wiring!

    edit..
Just found some results on page 30..for the aurora 9

Nice to see I made the right choice then Actually I expected the DX7SE to be lower latency that the 10C. Not really sure what running the Futaba Rx in HS rather than normal would make any difference to the latency though as this setting is only the servo update rate (7ms or 14ms). I have only used my Rx's in HS mode so far.

Personally I'll worry about the latency when (if) I ever get good enough to notice

As is often the case, reports from most people using the radio don't match the concerns of those not using the radio but I can see that someone at the top of the tree may decide this isn't for them.

Why did you? What is your knowledge of RC equipment desgn that led you to make that statement? Can't you just except the fact that Futaba does make some very good RC equipment?

            Speed or resolution?

I didn’t go for the speed of the up date, didn’t thing it would make that much difference to 44 year old blokes flying. However I’ve just flown my converted multiplex evo9 2.4 m-link: 14ms @ 12 bit 3800+ resolution / steps, for the first time on my Vision and yes it felt much more responsive and smoother. I understand that ‘locked in’ feeling now. I was not impressed by the standard DX7 when I last flew a friend’s vision, it was no better than my PPM multiplex (which according to the table ref above was pretty good; 24ms)

It would be good to know the trade off between speed & resolution also how does the feed back telemetry affect it?

              Spot-on Mark.

I upgraded my DX7 to the DX7SE and can honestly say I can't tell any difference.

Its a bloody good man that can.

The testing carried out by JKos is for eCCPM setups. In a very extreme case you would see it as the swash not travelling up and down flat. Mark as you are flying a standard Raptor this makes absolutely no difference to you at all.
