Can anybody tell me what the international version is compared to a normal version? Was looking to go from the dx6i up to the 7s and found it for £157 with a phenox simulator but it says it's the international version?
Thanks.
if I recall correctly US&Asia are less restrictive for the 2.4ghz range - the international version is the one with fewer restrictions so I think it uses all 80channels available rather than excluding the ones restricted for example in the EU

I don't think its restrictive channels, more that the output power of the signal is lower for the UK market sets than other areas of the world.
The protocol, DSMx will allow the same amount of channels to hop onto, but I know that in the UK the output of the RF signal from a 2.4ghz must be less than the US for example.
There is actual power output figures, but off the top of my head I can't remember them.
.
not sure but I doubt the same amount of channels as the way I understood it is less TX gain so not with the same channel bandwith across all channels - so overall lower TX power which would result in certain channels not matching the specs/requirements or channel not present - based on same applies for various 2.4ghz wifi cards, they used to have 2-5db less to comply with EU standards/regulations
If running DSM2 then only about 40 models can be in the air at any one time from memory, DSMX ups this to 80, which is why it was recently released.
In the UK we're limited to a maximum power output by the RF signal to 100mv, but some other countries such as the US can use a higher power output, which makes those 2.4ghz sets illegal to operate in the UK.
Here are some articles on 2.4ghz rules and specs which make good reading ;
I've just had a thought, but I think most newer Spektrum sets atleast allow you to change the output power, I think its done from within the system settings menu. But don't quote me on it as I've not tried.

Sadly not, they locked that down from the release of the DX8 onwards so that includes the DX7S and DX18.
It is possible to have a radio changed between USA and International, but it requires a trip back to the HH workshop and a small charge for the service.
Main differences are the lower output and the availability of the 'France' setting to let people set the radio for the more limited 2.4 GHz frequency range currently allowed over there:
UK range of frequencies
2.4000 GHz – 2.4835 GHz
Restricted frequency range - i.e. France
2.4000 GHz – 2.4540 GHz

Hey Mark.
Ah, thought it probably wasn't the case, but in scrolling through Vaughans DX8 I couldn't rememebr if I'd seen it or not.
That's interesting about France, so even with reduced frequencys is the amount of models still able to fly at any one time the same still? Of course dependant on if you are using DSM2 or DSMX protocol.

It is the option to change between 'France' and 'EU' that you will have seen in there, no 'USA' option sadly.

In France there is no 'DSMX' option right now and yes, you have a good point as I'd say the reduced number of channels would obviously reduce the number able to safely use DSM2.
All this is set to change soon though I believe as France comes into line with the rest of Europe (for once )
Don't think about 'normal' vs 'international' it doesn't work like that.
The only version that Horizon supply to a UK distributor is the International version. Same goes in the USA where they would only get the USA version.
So if you are buying UK stock from a UK retailer you will get the right version.
Only time you have to be careful is if you are ordering from somewhere outside the UK then you need to make sure it is the correct version and not a USA grey import or similar.
