The changing results could be due to the receivers designs, the 9 channel has 2 receiver inbuilt plus at least one external receiver, the 7 channel has 1 internal ans 1 external and the 6 channel has only one. Aerial shadowing is a factor with 2.4ghz systems so maybe this goes a long way to explaining the reasons for the differing ranges.

Does this aerial shadowing only apply behind carbon fibre and conductive materials.??
Got me kinda worried as most of my Spectrum RX's are inside the canopies, plastic and fibreglass. Not visible at all.
Allbeit,i've flown possibly 400yds and then straight back towards me at very low altitudes too.Completely blocking the RX's.
Mechanical failures are my biggest fear

The shadowing is generally only carbonfibre, metal and the like, fibreglass and plastic aren't a problem. On my Raptor E550 the satellite receiver is fixed to the back of a servo with velcro and both receivers are inside a fibreglass canopy, not a problem for 12 months now.Steve H

I was watching the heli's for raptorheli, i couldn't believe it when he told me that he hadn't raised his aerial at all!!! The only time the servo's moved was when he moved the sticks! Knew the 14mz was good but didn't think even that would get that far
