Hi Pete.
The thought of an autopilot installed in a radio would answer all my troubles at a stroke, overnight I could become an accomplished model helicopter pilot, the days of the shaking hands and the sweaty brow just by getting into a hover would be gone for good, just think that with an automatic radio, a flick of a switch and perhaps a little tweaking of the programme,I could be up there with the best of them.
NO this would NOT be the sort of advancement we require, this will most certainly happen in the future, but if they make the flying of model helicopters as easy as falling off a log,it will most certainly kill off this great sport.
It is too much to ask that the boffins leave well enough alone, for we are well on the way to this end result, if I could make any predictions on who the best fliers would be in the future, I can only think they would be computer wizards, and have heads too large to pass through a normal doorway.
GOOD FLYING.

Hi Mo,
I agree, I've no doubt that the technology will soon be available for such a facility, some autopilot systems are already available and have been for some time.
The skill and satisfaction of conquering the challenge of flying model helicopters lies fairly and squarely with the pilot, as you say the enjoyment lies on the road to achieving this goal, without it, this hobby could become monotonous and dull pretty quickly.
Cheers,

I'd like to see a crash avoidance facility aka dumb thumb takeover
You know that moment when you think "what am I doing", then its "did I just do that", then "WOOoo, where is it going".
I think my best yet that nearly cost me a heli was an inverted auto, as it came down nose in, I thought in my head right, time to roll out.....what did I do....
Pulled the elevator back..."What the hell, was I thinking", lucky it pulled all the way through and I flicked the throttle hold off and landed safely....
Cheers
