  • AR7000 Ariel leads

I just had a slight fall into long grass, no damage to Titan. However on removing canopy one ariel lead had dissappeared. Now was this the cause of the fall or the result of the fall? Considered opinion at the flying site says my newish engine cut. Since there was no damage to blades or head I assume this is a correct assumption.

This leaves fail safe / loss of ariel as a possible cause though there are three other ariels still intact.

My receiver is an early model and the grey wires just exit plastic case with no black shrink wrap or as I believe I have seen in new models, plastic tube guides.

My current theory is that vibration caused fatigue and my ariel split from the casing. I'm not convinced loss of one ariel would cause a fail safe, though thinking about it the remaining ariels may well be fatigued and just holding on by the plastic!

Anyone else experienced ariels dropping off spontaneously?

I intend to solder some thin piano wire in place of broken ariel and support with a dollop of silicone. Other remedies welcome.

There was recently a problem with the Spektrum 9 channel receiver where the aerial leads broke off due to vibration although not thought to be a problem for any other rx. Any way it invovled soldering the leads back on which should be the same for you. I'm sure Ripmax have the fix on their website.

      Rod,

It's not Ripmax but the Spektrum site. Ade has a post further down this thread page with the link.

Thanks, I soldered 2 X 1mm wire X 32mm long to both sides of the main receiver board. Then I pasted a cone of silicone around each wire, bonding it to the plastic case. Range check with new wire ariels was fine. (So too did range check with missing ariel!) Heart says buy a new receiver, we shall see how we go on.

Engine is newish, just changed fuel, so engine cut may well be mixture related. i.e not failsafe.

We really should have something to "record" failsafe activation.

Have you got a link to this info? The only problem I've seen with the Spektrum 9 channel receiver is in a service bulletin on Spektrums site, this concerns a capacitor on the board which is unsupported and can become detached from the board with vibration, the fix is to either return it to Horizon or fix it yourself http://www.spektrumrc.com/Articles/A...ArticleID=1709

            Steve,

I might have to change my name to Rodney Trotter aka Plonker ! I'm recovering from surgery at home and have spent a lot of time on the internet. When I saw Ade's link I didn't follow it just "thought" it was the right one. I still have another 3 weeks recovery, so will try and retrace my steps to find where it was I saw a similar thread.

            Regards,

            Andy
