  • newbie with problems already!

hi all.wouldnt say im a complete novice, maybe intermidiate?,but anyway, ive just got a 2nd hand walkera 4.its in mint condition with 4 channel tx.

i didnt rush in-unbox it and off we go!
i studied the instructions (what use they were),charged all the batteries and connected everything up.

on the tx,when i push the right stick up the blades spin, and the higher i push the faster they rotate,so im guessing this is the power control?

even on full power the heli doesnt set of upwards, just skates.

im hoping that someone can clear up the mode 1 mode 2 issue,as if i think its one or the other, does flipping the switches on the rear make a difference (i thought they just inverted the position of the tx stick)

It would suggest mode 1 but cos its a 4 channel im not that sure, what model TX is it & What heli.
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

If its just skating about would point to either not enough power or hardly any pitch ! mode 1 is used but not that common compared to mode 2 which is what 99% british flyers use! throttle and rudder on the left stick and cyclic on the right!

hi tourerjim.its a walkera tx,with the battery gauge on the front top,a silver toggle switch on the left and right front corners (been told these dont do anything).the left lever is spring loaded (up n down & left to right) and the right lever is spring loaded (left to right only).

on the rear is the charging input, the 8 tiny switches and a circular 4 pin socket.

the thing that i cant work out is if im putting more or less full power on and the heli wont elevate and the tx is mode 1 or 2,does the position of the 8 rear switches make a difference? ive checked the voltage in the rx battery, and after a few mins use theres just under 8v.

cheers supercaptaincrash.so mine is a mode 2 then with power been on the right stick? have i missed anything about altering the pitch of the rotors then-the instruction manual made it sound like it was literaly ready to fly !!

no paul! if youve got power on the right stick its not mode 2 ! mode 2 is throttle (power) and rudder ( nose left/right ) on the left stick and cyclic controls on the right stick

regarding the power, is the pack fully charged ?

            • #7
Yes,the pack was charged for 2-3 hours before use,and tested after 5 mins to make sure it hadn't instantly gone kaput! I'm sorry but I think I should change title of my 1st post to newbie!! On the right stick when I push up and the rotors spin is that not classed as throttle/power?

the previous owner never flew it-could it be that i need to make any adjustments?
feel a bit overwhelmed with it all, thought id be up n flying after 30 mins !

im in selby,10 miles from york dave.im scratching my head with a previous comment about mode 1/2.when i prepared for flight,i pushed up the right stick and the rotors spun.the futher i pushed the stick the rotors rpm increased.it seems that i still need to adjust the pitch servo with the left stick? also baffled by the leaning of cyclic!! think ive jumped in at the deep end!

paul the left stick if yours is mode one will not alter the pitch range! it will control the cyclic servos , which means it alters the position of the heli! i.e pushing left will make it roll/lean left, pushing forwards will take you into nose down and forward flight !

using the right stick (power/pitch) will increase the power to the rotor whilst at the same time altering the pitch range in sync with the power! Thats if the heli is collective pitch and not fixed !

Hi mate the walkera 4 looks pretty similar to a esky honey bee i had. It is a fixed pitch helicopter (blades have a set pitch) You have mode 1, (throttle on right stick). If it's 4 channel The right stick will control power and cyclic (rotate clockwise/counterclockwise) and left stick wil control yaw (lean left and right) and cyclic (fly forward/back)

If you throttle full power it should lift off the ground if it doesn't it's probably that the batteries are buggered. Although saying that it looks like my old honeybee- which was sh*t! It had no power even with new batteries and would just about hover but every time I tried to move it it would lose height and crash. I think a combination of weight and 'old fashioned' brushed motor. Lipo batteries are notoriously hard work compared to nimh and older batteries so if they've been lying around they might of had it.

My advice would be to throw it in the bin (or give it away like i did) and get something better. Like a blade msr or 120 sr and/or a simulator. Hope this clears some things up!
