  • Buy New or Add Module

I bought a JR PCM9XII in 2008 (along with an Align TRex 450S) and have just started building the heli. I see now everything is 2.4Ghz so should I get a module to convert my Tx or should I invest in new gear?

Personally I would sell your exisiting set and buy something like a DX7. You will get a fair price for your old set as they are in demand by the FPV people.

More people will be able to help you set up the DX7 as they area very popular radio.

Is there a particular place for selling this kind of stuff or just eBay it?

That's a toughie firstly there is nothing wrong with 35mhz it does work and we used it for years.
I had a Pcm9 which I put a module in and had years of fun with it in 35 MHz an 2.4 ghz so it's really up to you.
Firstly have you the money for a new set ? The Dsx9 is nice but around £300 , you set is the same as a Dsx9 .
Do yo need to change ? Well that's a yes if you want to not worry about frequency clashes and want an mcpx etc because they are all 2.4 ghz

If funds are tight then a module conversion works well , but if you go down that rout I would only get the genuine spectrum conversion as it just works.

Another thing would be do how much is my set worth if your Pcm9 + a module = £300 then buy a new dsx9 .

Just remember the radio helps the pilot it doesn't make the pilot !

You could advertise it on here but you will probably get a better price and a quicker sale by advertising it on the BMFA website which is at The BMFA Classified Ads Service as it has a broader reader base. Put the phrase FPV in the ad header to catch the attention of the FPV boys.

To give you some idea I just paid £100 for a 35 mhz tranny, receiver, charger etc which is like new but a few years old.

Good quality sets regularly fetch £100 - £150.

Oddly enough I bought a RTF mCP X v2 over Christmas to train on - so 2.4Ghz wtih a BNF function is a definate must have. I also got a SimStick as in 2008 I got Reflex flightsim and dongle for windows, but it doesnt work in my Mac

I guess I should look to sell the PCM9X II and go for a new set.

I wouldn't - that's a great radio, far better than a DX7. Keep it and get a 2.4GHz module. Simple and cost effective. The only thing you don't get with that setup against the DSX9 radio, is model match, but that's no biggie if you are disciplined.

was going to buy a dx8 but went for a pcm10x instead with a dm9 module. Not had a problem at all with this combo. So for me i would keep the PCM9XII and get the module and you'll be sorted.

I have a PCM PxII with a Spektrum module, and like said, the only thing you wont get is model match, But proper start up checks make that redundant anyway .

The only other Issue I have discovered is with the 3GX unit, It wont let you bind to the sats, you need to bind them on a separate rx then move them over (This is an Align issue, as it all binds fine via a Total G)

It has a few nice features that can come in handy that I have not seen on the spektrum, Like slowing down the throttle servo when switching out of idle up (adjustable) so if you bale out you wont cut the engine or strain the clutch, 7 point throttle curves....

Apart from that, It is still the nicest set I have held out of Dx6i, Dx7, Dx8. The build quality just feels much better.

the only thing I would change it for is a DSx9... But that would be spending money for spending's sake to me!

                  Just my 2p

EDIT... IF YOU DO GET A MODULE, MAKE SURE YOU GET THE NEWER ALL IN 1 UNIT, NOT THE ONE WITH THE SEPERATE ANTENNA.
SWRCH , Oh.. And a Helix 700 Gasser, Hv with SK540.....with SAB HPS head.

I very recently bought a nearly new PCM9X11 for £70 from a mate and then purchased the all in one 2.4 Spektrum module for around the same money, since using it i have stopped flying my heli's with my DX7 and now only use the PCM9X11, I prefer the
feel of the radio over the DX7 and it's features, the other thing i have done it reduced the throttle stick travel and recalibrated the pots so that I now have the same throttle stick travel as the DX7.

Thanks for the responses everyone - I'll grab one of those Spektrum modules and stick with the PCM9xII. Hopefully that will keep me going for some time
