  • Spektrum DX7 - Need your help please

    Hey guys.

Well, my last tx spontaniously broke, so taking advice I got from some people that are into rc helis, I went and bought a DX7. I can already see a massive improvment in quality over my previous remote

Now, just two quick questions. What cable do I use to plug it into a PC to use with a simulator? is there any other info that I might need to get it all to work?

And secondly, there was no a charger included with the tx, so where do I get a charger, or what charger do I get? (to charge the DX7's battery)

Thank you for any and all help

    Craig

Not sure about the sim/buddy connector, but I think the standard Phoenix lead plugs right in.

As far as chargers go, I know NOT what to use... don't use a Futaba charger - you need a JR one. The Futaba one is the wrong polarity.

You need a standard phono 3.5mm jack plug to plug into the Tx - some simulators, such as Phoenix or Reflex, come with a dongle and the appropriate connection for your Tx.

A standard JR wall charger will work, although it will be slow.
If you have a 12 volt charger, such as the Pro Peak Prodigy, get a lead for that and away you go.

      Cheers,

Rob Cant you charge it with the tx battery out via the fly lead & maybe a peak detect charger like say a super nova etc?

Of course you can... but I tend to leave connections well alone when it comes to Tx batteries, and charge via the socket. It does take a while with a standard wall-wart charger, but there again I just leave it on all night, or whilst I'm at work.

Hey guys, thanks for the quick replies.

About the phono to phono, I think you get a stereo phono jack and a mono phono jack, which one should I use? (sorry if I'm being stupid and misunderstanding something)

And about the charger, are you talking about a 12v transformer type thing that plugs into the wall? almost like old game consoles used to use?

And finally, where do I plug the phono plug into my laptop? and is there any software I need to install for the tx?

Thanks again 1 million for the help so far

Be careful charging batteries. The pukka JR charger to do the job is only about a fiver from Inwoods - it will have a regulated output for charging 9.6V packs.

If you use an unregulated 12V, the actual no-load output could be as high as 20V which could damage your cells.

The other way, as the other guys suggest, is to use a proper NiCd charger and charge the pack out of the radio with a fly lead to connect it to the charger.

It sounds like the conenction you're looking for on your radio for the sim is a 3.5mm socket, like a headphone connector. The lead that comes with Phoenix should then plug straight in.

              Cheers - Rob

you have to buy the simulator first craig then you will also need if you choose a free simulator to buy an adaptor to go into you puter the better simulators will come with a lead that just plugs into the TX the best sim out there is phoenix simulator it costs £80 ish
which is cheap becaus eits going to save you that in crashes alone.

How about use a Futaba charger, BUT, cut the output lead and re-fit it with reversed polarity. heatshrink over the soldered joints for a neat job.

Theres no need to take the battery out as there's no diode in the charge circuit which you find in all UK spec JR radios, I charge mine in-situ with the second output on my Robbe Infinity 3 charger, the caveat to this is that the maximum charge rate should be no more than 1A, then again this is pretty high. Ashtek Electronic sell a suitable lead for charging the DX7 (and JR) from a peak detect charger.
