  • What gear? Tx, Rx, Gyro and servos

    Hi all,

Very long time no write. I kind of lost interest in heli's for a while for 2 reasons. 1 - I crashed my old Shuttle mk1 and no parts are available to fix it and 2- Work, work, work!!!!

Anyway, I've just bought a new Shuttle SCEADU evo kit but with no electrics at all.

My question is, can anybody recommend a complete set of electrics for my new heli as I don't want to use my old heli gear. I think the old heli crashed because the mechanical gyro gave up in mid air!!! The engine is fine and I'll be using it in my new heli.
Price is a limiting factor so good but reasonably priced is what i'm after.

I have a 6 channel Futaba Rx with 4x servos and matching Tx that I used for my RC plane. Can any of this gear be recycled on my heli?
The Futaba kit is probably 4 years old but is in very good condition.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Is this the 30 or 50? Which servos do you have and which rx is it?

3001's are cost effective and not bad performance for the price. Get a decent hh gyro http://www.spartan-rc.com/direct/home.php or http://www.rcmodels.org/csm/ about £110 for either or for no limit budget GY611 is about the best. you can still use the raido but chuck the nicads and repalce with new ones

Hmmm, not sure I'd trust a £500 heli with £5 servos.

Only gyro to get is a Futaba 401/9254 and don't spend les than 20 quid per servo.
        Clones are bad

        .... that includes Align ones

Excuse my assumption, but I'm assuming you're a learner.

I agree with the 401/9254 tail suggestion, but as for the pitch and cyclic servos - 3001s will be just fine in both the 30 and 50 Sceadus. Given your tight budget, they'll get you hovering around and doing lazy eights and even gentle loops and rolls etc no problem. That should keep you going for 6 months or even a year.

3152 servos are worth sticking in it at 24 pounds each buy 3. leave a 3001 on the throttle for now.

401 gyro and 9254 servo is about 140 from fast-lads

              3152 servos 24 pounds 72 pounds for 3 roughly

decent rx battery 15 pounds.. done set up and go fly....

                  Hi all,

Thanks for a speedy set of relpies. All of which I find usueful.

                  To answer the questions:

                  1. It's a 30
                  2. Gyro and matching high speed servo wise - I do have a tight budget. Besides, I'm not attempting 3D stuff as I'm a learner.
                  3. I currently own 4x Futaba S3003 servos (almost new)
                  4. The Rx is a 7 channel Futaba R147F.
                  5. The Tx is a matching Futaba Skysport 6 digital proportional RC system. (i do not know whether I can adjust the gain of a gyro from this Tx..!

So is this gear suitable, albeit I'll need a new gyro and servo at least.

                  Cheers.

ok some bad news fore you.

im pretty sure the skysports 6 isnt heli capable.

even tho you wont be doing 3d type stuff its important the tail goes where you point it. it reduces your work load and lets you concentrate on the other controls meaning you have a faster learning curve. get a 401 with 9254 its the only way to go, you buy anything else you will only be wasting your time and your money as you will end up buying one anyway.

3003 are about as cheap and nasty as futaba get, they arent even ball raced. they will be "ok" on the ail/elevator/throttle but i would strongly recomend you buy a 3152 for the collective. defo look to upgrade the rest of the 3003 to 3152 when budget allows. 3152 are digital and are thus much more accurate. they will follow the stick much more precisely than 3003. If the model doesnt go quite where you point it then it you will loose confidence and it will slow your progress.

the 147 rx will work fine depending on what tx you end up getting. the futaba 7c (aka ff7) works well and can be found for just over 100ukp on its own.

Okay cheers Ade. I'm not surprised as it happens. Whenever i do something new in life I end up having to start over again... I'd better go work out how much I need to spend.

I suppose I might get lucky and find an off-the-shelf kit that contains all of the bits'n'bobs you guys have mentioned above. Anyone know where to start looking for complete electric kits?

                      Thanks again.

                        non that i know of.

if you buy the full 7c kit you only get 3001 with it i think.

                        I would be looking at;

                        Futaba 7c
                        futaba 401 with 9254 servo
                        futaba 3152
                        a 4.8volt 2400mah nicad or 3600+ mah nimh battery
                        heavy duty switch

what engine and muffler do you have?

I've got a HIROBO .30 engine with matching muffler although I'm going to use the bigger muffler I got in my heli kit.

I think it will be an O.S didn't they have a deal with with Hirobo sometime ago?
OS 32 I think it was as well....

Look at the Engine and see if you can see any Letters on it.

futaba 7c tranny you can get from inwood models for about 100 pounds.
