  • Newbie alert!!! Silly questions ahoy...

OK so I did warn you in the title...

I've had a search and I'm guessing my questions are too basic even for most beginners I'll start with just one lol

Now I've been looking in the manual and when you get a proper heli ( Msr at the minute but haven't bound it even yet ) there are 4 throttle curves. H, 1, 2, Normal.

But I thought the flight mode switch selected these, but that just has 0, 1, 2 on it...

So am I right in thinking Hold is when the Mix/Hold switch is on, then when off the 0, 1, & 2 of the flight mode switch are N, 1, & 2 in the throttle curves?

I'm also assuming that when the manual says Normal, stunt 1 & stunt 2 that is the same as when people talk of Normal, Idle up and Idle up 2? Or am I completely wrong?

Dead right Hold will kill the throttle in all flight modes, flight modes stunt modes idle up all the same thing, each mode can have its own throttle and pitch curves, the throttle curve in hold is normaly just a flat line around 0

Ah cool, so I was understanding it correctly lol

Now what's this Aux 3 knob do, the radio beeps everytime it gets past a particular point. I'm guessing it's not something I'd use on a trex450 or similar.

Correct again. You obviously have an 8 channel radio. A proper CP heli like a trex 450 or a nitro uses 6 channels as standard: Aileron, Elevator, rudder, throttle, collective pitch and gyro gain. A 7th channel is handy for remotley controlling a governor setting (not needed with most electrics). Channels 8 and beyond are handy for operating additional functions on your heli such as retracts on a scale machine or even engine mixture control. Not sure why the tx beeps though, what is it? DX8?

          Not necessarilly...

Hold will override the FM (as you say), but the effect this has is user-programmable. But typically shuts down an electric motor, or puts an IC motor into idle.

Sorry yes I missed that off in my original post somehow. It's a DX8 yes.

The Aux3 knob beeps as it passes 'zero'.

You could use Aux3 as a tweak, mixed into something like the gyro gain, via a programmable mix.

Play with the set-up on a spare Tx model. It's fun...

All the models are spare at the minute as I haven't even bound it to my Msr yet

I was looking for the "hover" button but there doesn't seem to be one. I think I bought a defective TX

I've just bought a Skookum SK720 flybarless controller. Apparently you can set this up so that (eg) the mix switch puts it into a self-levelling bail-out mode.

                  Not sure I'll bother though...

You'll like the DX8. Though I'm not sure about the sticks.

Well I don't really have anything to compare the DX8 to so I guess I'll just get used to it.

My wife wasn't too happy about the noise last night, warning tones going mad because I turned it on with the throttle high and the flight mode switch not in pos 0. I had no idea how to stop it other than to switch it back off as I got scouls from the other end of the sofa

'System menu' for the model concerned. (Switch on with roller depressed. gets you to the menu where you can select models and do 'system things' for the model selected.)
