DX7 disaster

Electrical cleaner is definitely the way to go.... Also, I did contact Horizon about a service on my Dx7, as I thought my Dx7 had an internal battery that might need changing..
I was sent an email back stating the Dx7 actually does not have an internal battery at all.....

know what your probably right ive just taken the back off mine as im sure it was on the switch board,but thats where the fuse is! and i cant find any sign of a battery

Probably means it's using flash memory, then.

This is good for this case, as there's no internal battery to run-down when the main battery is disconnected.

I did ask them if the memory was eeprom.. He did reply, that if the main battery was left off for some time..(wouldn't say how long) then all model memories would be lost.....must be chip memory supported by a capacitor...He also said that if this happens there was a chance that the Dx7 would lose it's main memory and it would need to be sent back to Horizon for the memory ..(must be firmware).. to be re loaded....

Yes deffernetly take the battery out before washing with water

I did wonder if this was the case, as both the DX6i & DX8 noticably do a 'save' when you power off (ie writing to flash or such) - whereas the DX7 doesn't.

I guess this is one of those unfortunate reminders about backing up one's valuable data. A major selling point for the DX8 IMO.

If your going down the water route..I would use some water,in a pot and a paint brush...you don't have to drown it ,but you do have to clean it thorally.....I wouldn't worry about the memory issue, as a trip to horizon after might be a plus....I.would also leave it in warm place for about 4 to 5 days...

Personally I'd box it up, send it to Horizon, explain what happened and see what they say. Whilst you can't count on it, with HH's reputation for sterling customer service, you may just find they fix it for free or for a nominal charge.

Whereas, if you've attempted to do it yourself, they may not be so accommodating as you may do more harm than good.

Besides, having done it yourself, would you really, I mean REALLY, trust it again?
