  • DX7: What can I keep?

IF I decided to go the DX7 route, I know I'd need to change my RX for the one that comes with the DX7... but would all my servos and all the rest of the gear in my helis (See my sig for my parts) work with the DX7 and it's Rx?

Also, can you have more than one model on a DX7? As there's no crystals (I don't think), how do you associate an Rx with the TX?

    1. yes you can keep your servo's, they will work fine with it.
    2. the dx7 uses model match, so it recognises different models and wont allow you to bind to the rx unless you have the correct model selected. The receiver comes with a bind plug which is used to connect the rx to the tx first time round.

ive just got a dx7, its a cracking bit of kit

Thanks Jamiem. Not quite understanding how you connect them then. So you have have more than one model on your transmitter. How is each RX different from the rest? With the 35mhz ones, it's by the crystal (and maybe something else in the RX that differentiates 72mhz and 35mhz...), but in the 2.4ghz one, what is it? All software based? Each RX maybe has the equivelent of a MAC code or IP address?

Also, does anyone know where you can get just the TX and the RX (no servos)?

YES, THE DX7 works off of UUID (MAC) addresses and the TX address binds with the RX so the RX will only respond to the UUID of your TX, there is extra part of the code which stops you from using the wrong model on the TX with the one you wan to fly.

i was told by my local place that you can get the tx and rx on its own, or as a set.

nutz, any idea if your going tomorrow or not yet?

you can run upto twenty models from your tx each with its own indavidual setup. they really are easy to get the hang of and you cant fly the wrong model on the wrong settings because it simply just doesn't recognise the rx!! once you "binded" it(is that a word ?) i think i meant bound it!!!

                another link for youhttp://www.raptortechnique.com/review-dx7.htm

You also definitely don't want to buy the TX pack with the DS821 Servos. There is a know problem with the output shafts. They are brittle and can break on you! I had 2 go and was refunded by the distributor.

Just get the TX and RX, although in fairness you are going to struggle getting hold of a DX7 at present.

                    Damn this!
I went to the field today with no equipment - very windy up here (for a change.. ), and was talking about the DX7, and I said that it completely eliminates glitches... Is this wrong? Someone said that it's rubbish, and that glitches will always be there...
My argument to my wife has slipped slightly is this is true.

                      I read this on RaptorTecnique...

"I originally bought the radio for two features. The first was so I did not have to be concerned if anyone else was on my channel. The second was to eliminate the RF glitches that are typical with an all carbon frame helicopter."

So it Does get rid of glitches then??

Your fellow flier is talking crap

The Spektrum system is totally glitch free,i have had over 200 flights with my DX7 and know many others that use it,i have it on all my helis, nitro and electric and nothing has ever miss a beat

                        Its a stunning system

The 35mhz band is very noisy in frequency terms and metal to metal and many other rf sources can affect it,2.4ghz is secure and way above the glitch zone

I thought so... But when he came and started throwing high tech talk at me, and rubbished my DX7 theory, I felt small, and... left. I'm going to go to the club, tune into his 35Mhz channel with my spectra module and smash his plane* - the dirty swine.

                          * I'd never do that..
