  • I'm having a mental moment with my 9ZAP

    OK folks

I have set up my throttle jockey on my 9Z WC2, which went fine, calibrated perfectly, comes on at exactly 25% throttle etc. However, I calibrated it with the throttle ranged from fully closed (trim down) to fully open.

The problem is that when I then increase the trim to set it up for idle, it moves the whole "range" up meaning that the full open throttle is now binding. I'm picking my brains, but have probably had too many beers to figure this out . What am I doing wrong?

    Cheers

    Andy

i think there are 2 modes of trim on the 9z, one moves the range the other just moves the bottom.

      simple fix

Calibrate it with the trim at the top.

Thats what I was thinking but the manual clearly states that the range must be from throttle fully closed (engine cut) to fully open. Some other instructions I have found on the net from users of the TJ have also commented that the engine must be in the fully closed position for the bottom end of the range. ???

You may be on to something but I can't figure out how to do it so it just moves the bottom...

My old Multipliex 4000 had two different trim modes. It wouldn't suprise me if the WC2 has a similar set-up - it's the preserve of the high-end transmitters.

Found how to change the mode on the ZAP (normal to ATL). One adjusts the range and the other the bottom. So I wasn't going mad after all. Thanks guys.

                  The Multiplex was/is slightly different.

One trim mode just adjusts the centre position while leaving the end points unchanged, and the other adjusts the centre point while taking the end points with it. And, you can set each and every channel to which ever style you want.

Why did I ever get rid of it?

Oh yes, because it couldn't keep a heli tail steady!

Multplex were nice and flexible... then they messed up with the Evo, lack of PCM and their dodgy IPD rx's

i used almost none of the MPX's abilities on helis so the KISS principal and you go for futaba/JR

                      9xII

is the same , norm or LST . don't think it will cure your problem. I don't care what the GUIDE says i have been calibrateing mine with the trim up since they came out and will not change.

                        how about...

calibrating the bottom with the trim down,

                        then trim up to idle

                        then calibrate the top.

Am I missing the point here?

I don't EVER use the trim on the throttle.

I just set the end points to tickover/start position at the bottom and full throttle at the top, which gives me a throttle range of 0% (tickover) to 100% (full whack) in my throttle curves. Why do you need the trim at all?

Oh, and I then set the throttle cut to -20% or something (on a JR 9xii).

                            Yep, urr missing the point.

Its a good idea to use the trim to allow for day to day variations in idle setting (saves going into curves). its also a good idea to be able to stop the motor with the trim. a, cos the BMFA recommend it . b, its cos what i do and c, if u decide to buddy box for someone with that 9x u will loose your throttle cut,

anyhow think he found his prob.

                              a) There are NO day-to-day variations in idle settings on any of my helis,

                              b) I only ever leave the trim set in the middle, but if I were to use it, then the engine would definately cut, so that's the BMFA one covered, and

                              c) very true, but covered by b)
