Specktrum and 35MHz with Carbon Canopies

I heard through the grape vine that 2.4GHz don't like carbon canopies, any truth to it?

On thinking about it I don't think any RX (2.4GHz or 35MHz) likes a carbon shield block the TX signal, why do they make carbon canopies????

Yeah but as a rule on 35 you have most of your aerial outside of the canopy so I'd say its more a 2.4 problem

A guy mentioned that he heard that they will have an adaptor soon for 35mhz radios, to allow them to transmit to a 2.4Ghz Rx.... So you will be able to use your old radio - but in 2.4Ghz.

Can this be true?

Yes, but depends on the radio - there will be modules for the futaba FF7 (old verson) 8 and 9 and a JR set from Spektrum soon and Futaba 2.4G modules will appear in August.
There is some doubt now as to wether the Spektrum modules will be strictly legal in the Futaba and JR sets.

I would think probably not - did you look at the other threads yet? There's loads of info there - also go to spektrum website and see the modules they are offering.

It does look like they make a module for your transmitter.

If you use a module such as this you need to bear in mind the following.

1) you will have to use a receiver made by the same manufacturer as the module.
2) your setup may no longer be legal to use in this country and you may not be insured as a result (this is the current BMFA position).

Why do they make carbon canopies?
Same reason somone makes Carbon fibre instrument fairings for hang gliders - fit your GPS and it doesn't work till you cut a big hole in the nice shiny fairing to let the signal in.
90% of carbon fibre use is cosmetic rather than functional.
They often use the sort of resin intended for glass fibre as its cheaper than the epoxy - then the carbon layup is only the same strength as it would be in glass!

The extreme power systems are not yet released and will ppear stateside first. keep an eye on runryder.
Hitec is very strong in the states and quite rare here (except for cars).

Not really a problem though for remote highland hillbillies

So far and touching a big piece of wood( Steady now )-I've had no probs with my DX7 and Trex 450SE carbon canopy- mounted mine under the batt tray, surrounded by all that carbon and my new strobe lighting kit(looks really cool on dull days!)- not a glitch,nuthing....

Will add though that I'am looking foward to DX9- Especially for my Trex 600/Funkey Airwolf kit - Getting one in a few days time from LHC - This will be bling incarnate ...
