The more people that use 2.4 the less problem people with 35 meg will have.I am sticking with my 14 MZ never had a problem.

Having said that am I correct in thinking that i my instructor would also need a spektrum tx in order to buddy box or doesnt it work like that?

                Hi Stu

2.4Ghz sets, that the moment, seem to come only in the bottom to mid range variants. The DX6 is only meant for indoor-types and the DX7 contains enough so that a semi-serious hobbyist will be satisfied for a long time, IMO.

Futaba have an entry-level 2.4Ghz 6 channel available from towerhobbies and eagerly awaited by local stockists. They plan to release the 2.4Ghz version of the FF7 system in summer, but I understand thats in the US first - who knows when we will get them.

If it were my money and I was in your shoes, I'd get a DX7 now. They're good value for money and investing in 35Mhz is investing in the past. The safety factors offered by the technology are really appealing to me - one of the biggest reasons why I've not flown my models in the local park is because of interference problems. I've got electrical power lines overhead and who knows what other 35Mhz users out there that I could interfer with, or vice versa. 2.4Ghz bypasses all that.

Personally, I've got too much invested in 35Mhz with the 10-odd models I've got lying around. When my preferred brand brings out their own 2.4 system, then I'll probably upgrade as soon as finances allow.

I would consider, however, seeing if you can get the DX7 set sans servo's. I've not heard much about the supplied servo's, but they are an unknown and I'd be cautious and rather invest the money is a known entity. Mid-level digital servo's like the futaba 3152 seem to be very popular for .50 heli's and I've followed that lead and am busy putting 4 of them in the Raptor Titan 50 I'm busy building myself.

Revolutionmodels.co.uk sell a servo-less DX7 for £205 under the product code SPM2172E - scroll down a little on that page to see it. 4 x futaba 3152's will set you back around £88 from servoshop.co.uk. or £80 from inwood models

                Hope that helps.

                Regards
                Andrew

Thanks a lot for that philimon. I think I will go that route. Certainly seems to be the way things are heading.

Well with that decison made it just leaves the daunting task of building my rappy (have to say I'm still slightly tempted to go ARF though all the advice points against it)

                  Cheers

                    Hi Stu

I'm by no means an expert, but I've found building my Titan to not only be a huge amount of fun, but also very educational. My first heli was an ARF and when something broke in my first crash, I was almost scared to take it apart as I had no idea how it works.

Now, if something breaks in my Titan, no problems at all.

                    Good luck

Don't use the DX7 servos in your Raptor for certain, the output gear splines are brittle and just shear off with minimal load on them. I've seen this 3 times now. I'd not even trust them in a plank unless of course you get some JR811 gears and fit them as I think they are the same

                        Phil,
I was considering trying one of these servos on my throttle (Evo 50).
Do you think it's a bad idea?
I have no experience of these servos - and I don't like the sound of "brittle"...

                        Cheers,

i would be ok to use one on throttle as there is no real load unless its overtravelling

But personally i would rather stick a cheapy futaba on than one of them, just to be sure

                            Thats what I have now
I'm just curious about these servos and wondered if they'd be any good on the throttle (with a RevMax).

                            Cheers,

Well I decided to try one on my throttle with a Revlock and it seems to be OK. I'm still a bit nervous but so far so good.
