  • DX7 Binding Issue

    I've got a trex 450 with a 35a Phoenix ESC and a DX7 TX with the AR7000 RX

Having problems getting the setup to keep it's bind. I want to program the ESC, but I can't get in to the mode due to the following:

    1 Plug battery connects in
2 Switch on TX with Bind botton depressed.
3 Let the bind process happen and once both reviever lights are constantly on then I have control of the servos, but not the motor.
4 I then disconnect the battery and reconnect with the TX still on.
5 The RX lights are flashing fast and it does not connect.
6 The only way to get the connection again is to bind.
7 The end result means I cannot program the ESC.

I also have the AR7000 on a knight 3D with no issues and never need to re-bind.

Anyone have any ideas what I can do.

I'm no expert - but it sounds like it's the ESC not allowing a start because of the stick position (the safe-start type of thing) I'd have a play with the servo travel on the throttle before you bind it, that might let the esc arm itself and then you can go about setting it all up from there - just remember to take the pinion off so if it starts up, the blades don't beat the crap out of you.

Try the RX out of the knight in the 450, that way you will prove if you have a faulty RX.

OK I've checked the RX and there is no problem with it. It works fine with my knight 3D setup. The difference between that setup and this is I have the switch and seperate charge lead which you put the bind plug into.

I asked Skyline about this when the RX arrived and they said I didn't need a bind lead. All I needed to do was to plug into the ESC.

So from what I can see every time I plug I reconnect the Battery the RX goes into bind mode. (Fash flashing LED on RX)

I'm completely stumped by this being a newbie . I've had a look at the Phoenix instructions and they said to switch on the TX with full throttle, but if the RX is in bind mode that can't happen as the ESC won't get the correct signal.

Stuck and sad cause I wanted to get this TREX flying last night

Bind the rx like i did the Knight one,,ie out of the heli with a Nicad, the switch harness and the bind plug,,then refit in Rex

As far as I know you can only bind the RX to te TX via the battery connection on the RX. This is done by shorting the signal and ground together to put it in bind mode on powering up.
You will need the bind plug on the battery connection either via a Y lead or by putting the battery onto another channel and the bind plug on the battery channel.

I haven't re-tried this since I did the bind using my knight setup. Still I will check later tonight.

              Many thanks for your replies.

The binding instructions for the Spektrum are a little confusing if you're using a BEC and not the usual switch harness.
The proceedure that works for me is:
Remove the pinion or disengage the mesh.
Connect the BEC ESC to channel 1
Insert the female binding plug directly into the battery connector of the receiver. Don't bother with the switch harness.
Connect the motor battery to the ESC. The receiver lights should start flashing.
Power up the transmitter and bind as per the instructions.
Remove the bind plug from the receiver and set up the ESC.

This has always worked for me.

So once you gone through the bind procedure, that' sit right - I know it was on my knight setup with the switch harness.

However I followed your procedure today and in fairness I got things happening, but as soon as I disconnected the battery and reconected it, I needed to bind again.

I'm going to call Skyline to see if they can shed light on this.

I've just done another one, as the Logo10 is getting Spektrumised. No problems. When I was setting up the "Tractor" (rex600) I did unexpectedly have to rebind once, but otherwise it's worked perfectly for me every time (Got 5 models on the Spektrum now, all with BECs)

Maybe you could try plugging a 4.8volt pack into channel 1 to simulate the ESC's BEC and bind it that way. Then see if it stays bound after power off.

                      All sorted...

I thought I had to plug the the ESC into the battery connection on the RX, but of course it should have been the throttle. (thick noob I know )

All working fine now and many thanks for your help.

The bind procedure for this set up does need explaining better though I agree.

                      Cheers all
