  • DX7 better than DX6i ?

I have only ever used a DX6i since starting with helis 2 years ago. All my helis are electric and as such the DX6i has been fine.

However this summer I plan to get a nitro heli as well and will need the extra channel.

With this in mind I'm planning to keep an eye out for a used DX7. My question for now is: What benefits, if any, will I see in using the DX7 instead of the DX6i with my electric helis?

    Thanks, Dave

    I suppose a supplementary question should be what does a DSX7 do that a DX7 doesn't?

The DX7SE has lower latency, I suspect most think they wouldnt really notice or benefit from it though. Saying that I certainly notice the latency difference between the 9C in PPM and the 10CG on 2.4GHz - and I am certainly not pushing any flying boundaries The heli now replicates my shaking when it goes wrong LOL

you are correct about the DX7se, here are some interesting latency tests done on quite a few Tx and Rx combinations

DX7 is smaller than the DX6i, it feels a lot sturdier and better made.

I prefer the DX7 to the 6i, not sure why (apart from the xtra channel) i just do.

Thanks for that, I now understand! Are these differences in response times noticable I wonder for someone with modest flying ability?

I have flown nitro helis with the dx6i, (t-rex 600NSP, century predator gasser.)

I have never used a GOV so the extra channel has never bothered me.

On the flip side, i just bought the new hitec aurora, didnt like the dx7 felt clumsy.

I think the DX7 looks much more like a professional radio. The DX6i does look, imo, a bit toy like

I'd hang on until the DX8 comes out, as I think a fair few people will be swapping so there will be a load of used DX7s for sale, which will push price down.

As others have said, DX6i will be fine for nitro if you either don't use a governer or use one you can set manually.

DX7SE seems a bit pointless to me, the latency is only improved if you use a specific expensive receiver, and you lose the trainer switch - bit pointless if you ask me ! If your so worried about latency get a cycloc - or stop drinking too much coffee ;-)

Having had a little go with a DX6i i didn't like it at all. It feels horrible, the menus are not as easy as the DX7 & doesn't look as nice imo

I'm returning to thos thread after a couple of weeks.

I have now bought and used a DX7. I have to say the difference in response and sensitivity is unbelievable. Another member of our heli club has made the same switch and makes the same comments. We have both been long term users of the DX6i TX.

I set the DX7 up with the same settings, throttle and pitch curves etc on my 450 so expected little noticable difference but there is a serious difference.

Am pleased I have changed over.

I noticed a nice difference when I moved from the 6 to the 7. Just feels better and the menu system is better. Easier to range check and bind. Better "visualization" of the curves, especially when you are using D/R and/or EXPO. Well worth the extra money, IMHO.

I'm really interested that people think the 7 is actually better to fly with, I'd assumed there would be no difference flying other than the extra idle2 etc. I bought a 2nd DX6i recently instead of upgrading to DX7, maybe I made a mistake.

I think I will hang on to see the DX8 which I really like the look of, and would tick all the boxes for me to move up to.
