  • Futaba 7C & 9C

Are there any real significant diferences in the menu styles and basic operation of these 2 transmitters?

i.e. is the 9C more or less just a 7C with 2 extra channels?

You get graphs on the 9C, along with some extra nobs and sliders and a better screen with more options fitting on it at once.
There's other stuff too, but off the top of my head, I can't think.

It feels better than the 7 too!
    Cheers,

I'd expect a few extras anyway. What I'm more interested in is if the general operation of the menus etc is the same or similar.

i.e. would my "not so bright at working out a transmitter" clubmate (who only flies planes but that doesn't matter here) be able to move over from a 7 to a 9 without too much agro?

        I went from a 7c to 9c....

9c works for me. Gives you more channels, more switchs, better mixing and options. Oh and takes a compac memory upgrade so you have loads of models.. because they breed!

Oh and the 9c feels better in the hands but change that battery in it to a 1700ma or better

9C is very easy to use/program. Even my little un can use it ;-)

As has been mentioned already - going from the 7 to the 9 shouldn't be a problem at all.
            Cheers,

                I know what you mean.

If I had my way, I'd tell him to get a 9xii, and for the same money, there's a 4 year old, one owner 9Zap WC2 going within the club, but going back a few posts - this pilot has sooooo much difficulty understanding the ins and outs of the 7C that the 9C has got to be the sensible option for him.

The only reason he needs 9 channels is that he's in the middle of building a plane that needs 8 servos, and although this could easily be sorted out with his 7C and Y leads, servo reversers etc, he's got it into his mind that he needs a 9 channel Tx.

Another reason for considering the 9C is that this chap owns a bundle of Futaba Dual Conversion Rxs, so he really needs a Futaba Tx (is that right?) to operate them.

Despite our advice, he is now adamant that he needs a 9 channel Tx so is hell-bent on getting one. We just need to steer him in the right direction.

the zaps are even worse got all the functions if you can understand them
apart from the 14mz which is over kill all the pootaba tx's feel cheap, hide menu's have mixers active as default, and look like a child's toy.
also all the people i've know have radio issues glitches lockout's interferance.. have been on futaba, I've been JR since day one... never had an issue
yep dual conversion can't mix match.. another great idea
                  cheers Lee

                    Yes.
He would need to change all the receivers to JR if he got a JR Tx as they work differently.

I don't think the Futaba 9C looks like a childs toy - it feels robust and solid in the hands.
I'm not about to jump to Futaba's defense though - I happen to think both Futaba and JR have their merits and drawbacks
                    Cheers,

futaba dual conversion rx's will work just fine with JR.. you just need to use a futaba DC xtal in it. its PCM that wont work.

the 7c and 9c are very similar in programming. the main difference is the higher resolution display giving more info and some extra bits like a governor menu.

on the fixed wing side it has built in taileron mix (for double elevator servos) and copes with 4 aileron/flap servos much better.

the other thing over the 7c is that it has an RF module so that IF they come out with a 2.4gig module for it you will be able to convert. That sounds like a big IF at the moment tho.
