  • Q?? Rudder trim on DX6i not working, can I open & fix or do I return to Horizon?

I have a question and I would be grateful if you could help.

On my DX6i my rudder trim will only click to the right, there is no left click at all.

Can the Spektrum DX6i unit be repaired by the user (if so who sells spares) or do I have to return it to Horizon?

    Many thanks,

    Tony

Could be best to return it, they will most likely fix it for free. I did fix one of these myself though. I used CA with cotton thread as a reinforcement and it never broke again. Sold it now though

Tony just make sure you havent pushed it all the way to the left first

also you want the rudder centred without any trim if its the blade your using as its got a hh on it so the trim should be central.

          hope it helps.
          All the best
          Tony.

Yep I checked that first! Lol! but thanks for the suggestion, I frequently miss the obvious my Mrs calls it man blindness.

I've taken the dx6i apart and I'm just waiting on glue to dry, it has the same failure as detailed in the HF link above.

Thanks for all the replies, problem should be solved once the super glue goes off fully.

            Regards,

            Tony

I'd suggest you phone Horizon UK, they will almost certainly post you out a new trim switch, which you can replace yourself, as a permanent fix.

I'd love to but I can't do this Saturday.

                  Ramble/woffle alert:
I've got a few large fields within 30 yards of my front door, it's so easy for me to nip out and have 30mins flying, I love it!

I've just come back in. After repairing the dx6i, it was a great excuse to go out for a blast to see if the trim worked under flying conditions (lame excuse eh).

Considering I'm at still at the tail in flying stage (with training skids on), I should be exercising restraint and taking things slow and easy. That said I had a huge urge to try and do a loop.

On my fourth lipo, I could not resist any more..... so I went for it....I was amazed at how quick it came back down, I VERY nearly planted it, the training skids lightly grazing the grass as I came out of the loop! It could not have been any closer to a disaster. Now I know how much height I need for a loop, I went for another and this time I remained several meters off the turf!

All this goofing around with a toy has the effect of rapidly reducing my mental age to about 6. I came back in and was hopping around grinning and shaking my fist, I even yelped with joy. How very Juvenile.... (has this happened to any one else?). Funny thing is, I kinda like the instant sense of achievement and rapid reduction in mental age; it's a great escape.

My next hurdle is removing the training skids, the very thought of it brings back the same type of anxiety that I had as a kid when my Dad said it was time to remove my stabilisers !
                  Rambe/woffle over.

I might pop down 2tree on Sunday with a few cakes and a flask of hot brew and run a few lipos through me lil toy. You down there Sunday Tony?

I'd do that - I put a small dab of 5 min epoxy - it worked as a treat and should now for the rest of its working life

seems to me if your at the tail in flying stage with loops..what ya doing with the training sticks still on!!!!....get rid asap..your probably being held back by using them..just remember when landing..settle into a stable hover then lower gently and level. Once you have done that without the training sticks then you will wonder why you didnt ditch them ages ago..well done with the loop and good luck

I may well be there myself sunday, being the day it is I cant see me being able to be out all day long.

blimey if your at the looping level then youve certainly moved on in the last couple of weeks.

maybe you can show me how to get them right LOL

I should be down there late morning/lunch time. I'll be leaving the field around 3pm latest. If you're there I'll see you then.

Lol! I am still very much a 'doofus' with a total lack of finess; watching me fly is akin to watching a drunken man play football in over-sized welly boots.

No doubt you will see my lack of eloquence if you're about on Sunday.
