  • Problem with DM9 module

    hi all,
Have a Spektrum DM9 module in a JR 3810. Did a range check on Trex 450 with 6100e today and only got 5 foot !!!!.
Changed the antenna to one fixed directly to the module and its the same. Tried the Rappy too (AR9000) and got 15 meters . On full power got to 70meters with both, then couldnt see if it was reacting or not ...

Worried that i may have to send the module back.... which will ground me

Any ideas before i contact HH.... Dont want to miss something stupid....

    Simon

        I fly at few places
        1. Charlton mackrell (near Street)
        2. Westonzoyland
        3. I have used a nice field at Mark but go to Chalton mackerell as the people that fly there are fun. which is pushing me on more
        where do you fly?
        Cheers Paul

An update on this. Tried rebinding and checked everything over again. Range check was better at 15 yards (as far as i could go in the garden).
At this point i had a thought... I was doing the range check in my garden which has short grass, The range check yesterday was in the field which has long grass....So put the heli in the field on a workbench so it was 3' off the floor, and with the range check button in it was ok to 45+ yards .....
Now im guessing that as the heli is mostly in the air (mostly lol) than this is ok.

Have Emailed Horizon Hobby about this to see what their take is on it, just to be on the safe side, And as a precaution, will be getting my wife to stand with the heli while i go off for a wander ( guess i can get 300 yards + and still have line of sight).

hopefully this is all it is, Will update when i hear from HH.
                Thanks again,
                Simon.

yep - long grass ( especially wet) is a range killer - provided you keep the heli above ground level you won't get any lockouts - below ground level, well lockouts are the least of your problems....

Hi all, an update on this, Just spoke to HH and indeed, they advise holding the heli off the ground for a range check. I guessed as much..... just one of those things that catches you out when you do something different !

On a slightly different note about this module, i noticed on the HH site that the new modules come with an intergrated antenna ( Mine has the coax up to a remote antenna) which i have never been too keen on as its a bit fragile.
According to the guy i spoke to there should be some news in the next week or so about being able to upgrade/ change the module cover for the new type... Will be V. pleased if this happens.
I would mod mine myself, but there was a note from the BMFA about modifying the module and causing a problem using the handset at a BMFA club. ( I think some have already rerouted the cable ?).

Will be keeping an eye on HH an post if i spots the Bulletin.
