Tx ?

Hi All
Looking to update my old and weary JR transmitter like the idea of a synthesized set so have narrowed it down to JR 9XII but don't know if i would use half of the bells and whistles there is on it, JR 2720 pretty new (although looks like Inwoods stock it) so cant find any one with any experience of this set or Spektrum's DX7 which reading these posts sounds pretty good .

I use a 9x2 - IMO the best sub £300 synthesised Tx you can get.

The Spektrum is JR based, so is probably (maybe?) very similar.

Maybe someone else can confirm or deny this.

I run a 9XII and love it, after a while you start to use and want all the bells and whistles. The only thing that is holding me back from the DX7 is it lacks some of the glider stuff.

With the 9x2, you're paying for tried and tested functionality.

With the DX7, you're paying for new technology and only limited functionality.

Oh, and the DX7 feels like a childs toy in your hand!

If you fancythe 2 GHz technology, then I would wait until Futaba bring out their version, and then measure the 2 up against each other.

i think i'll wait until they bring out a 2.4 ghz module for my 9x2... the dx7 is all good but i use alot of the functions in the pcm9 that dx7 doesn't have

A friend of mine rekons that they can't/won't make a 2.4 GHz module for a current 35 MHz set i.e. the 9x2 - the elctronics just won't be up to the job.

So, if you want 2.4GHz technology, it's a new set or nothing.

Is there any truth in this?

Interesting link - Thanks 3dbasher - I'm using a Spektrum DX7 because it's the only 2.4Ghz system with any pedigree - but having read the link I can't see Futaba/JR sitting on there hands while others get a foot-hold in 2.4 Ghz.
I think the only question/doubt is a time frame for a production set.

It seems pretty good value for money and the benefits of the whole 2.4Ghz seems to make so much sense I would be very interested in your opinions

Haven't had any problems with the DX7 - thought I may have struggled with the JR programing as I've only ever used Futaba - but that proved to be a none starter , with just a little practice you can sail through a set-up.
I'm basically using it on electric models -the no interference aspect is brilliant not to mention the lack of aerial draped all over the place.
Of course there are few areas where it is not as good as my Zap, the Tx does not have that quality feel and there is not as many switches and I miss the two sliders for Hov pitch and Top end pitch , but there is more than enough to get a model to fly well .
Here you can pick a Combo set up for £205 - In heli terms not a lot of money.
OK Futaba may well come up with a 2.4Ghz module for there present sets or even a new 2.4Ghz set in the future who knows I don't have a crystal ball.

My Zap's are of an age and I'm not going to spend silly money on Mz's so the Spektrum is a cheap diversion untill we see what's coming from the big two.

g-dave you find the spectrum easier in the programing because like you said it's based on JR software, much much more straight foward than futaba and no hiding the menu's
I've got quite a few years of experience behind me and when i had a look at a zap spent half an hour scratching my head and gave it him back... not a chance... got some nice features but my god how, i can just about manage with the 7c and 9c though

I guess it's horses for courses really.
I seem to be able to pick up most Txs and program them without much of an issue.
I started out on Futaba gear so I find them a little easier as I'm used to how they "work" but I still find them very straight forward.
It doesn't phase me if I have to pick up a JR Tx though

True - I went the other way last week.

I'm fine with JR, Sanwa and Multiplex, having used all three extensively over the years, but I've recently set up twopart's new Sceadu on a Futaba 6EXH - my first attempt at a Futaba - was pretty easy to understand really.

I suppose the more experienced you are with helis, you have a clearer picture in your mind of what exactly you are trying to achieve at any one time, so you just go looking for that on ething and don't get distracted by all the other stuff.
