Yes, nitro is a bit cheaper, esp if you crash.
No, you cannot just go to a local field. If public, that's a no-no with nitro, if private, that's ok with the owners permission.
You need BMFA membership for their insurance, go to a club to watch, join the club if you like what you see, learn from them - and very def from this site . The club will require you to have insurance & will keep you safe from channel interference.
If you go off flying on your own you may interefre with another flyer within a couple of miles, or him you = crashed helis or injury.
