Spektrum DX7 backlight mod

I'm tempted to go LED for a start... Since Steve mentioned the zebras I have had some bad memories lining them up again

The down side will be pools of light but, if it is just for setting stuff up for night flying, I'm not worried. I'll let you guys know how I get on. I'll be interested to hear how the EL mods come on

NO, dont do that Steve, we are just trying to compile everything we can find on this and see if it a doable thing.
Just hoping we can find a fairly easy route to this to share with everyone.
Any help would be most welcome dude.

I think the point really is there are a bunch of people (including me) who are willing to pay for someone else to do it as we are not confident with our micro soldering skills.

Come on boys, someone must want to earn some cash on the side!?

As long as people realise you are doing it as best effort and take no responsibility for voiding people's warranties or whatever then it's up to the people willing to send it to you if they want it done or not.

By the way, I recon if someone is actually willing to undertake something like this would be nice to have a power LED added and the bearing mod done at the same time. Not that I am asking for much

As people have said the LED addition would give an uneven backlight and I would be concerned about noise/interference from the inverter used with the EL. Either modification would invalidate the CE approval which is why HH wont offer this 'mod'. I suspect the liable person would be the one to perform the modification, especially true if this was done for profit.

Its an interesting mod but certainly one I wouldn't be prepared to undertake (my 10CG has backlight anyway).

38mA for the Blue display and 32mA for the white IIRC.

Reason im asking is that I was one of the people that put the wire inside of the TX case when i fitted a spektrum module to my 9C super as i didnt like it being on the out side of the case.
Now the bmfa made a report about this in the model helicopter world mag that if you do this mod or any mod you will be invalidating the CE mark and you wont be covered by your insurance.

Hope this is not the case with this as looks a good idea but thought might be worth pointing out.

Well I'd imagine if something as simple as putting the wire inside the case invalidates your insurance then you can probably forget being covered if you add a backlight.

Well there was a time LMA stopped Futaba 2.4 and that lasted as long as i took Futaba to send letter saying where taking you to court!

CE mark really don't get it or understand it. Never bought anything and said ohh looks its got a CE mark, i'll have that. It to me about marketing whatever you word it just about the money!
They want me to belive that having CE mark is better than one without. Its the brand name that counts. Product is rubbish brand will suffer with or or without CE mark.
