I can't understand why Horizon Hobby don't offer to do the mod, because I'm sure they would make a great deal of money.

I for one would pay for such a service. But it brings me to ask myself why the Transmitters don't come with a backlight as standard,Maybe something to do with what Moyesboy has said earlier about possible interference in the transmitter.

Or maybe it just costs to much to do at the manufacturing stage,as it appears the backlit screens are only available on the ridiculously priced higher range TX's and that is the only way they can make their money back.

I can understand why the DX7 hasn't got a backlit screen because it's been out for a while and the demand for such a thing wasn't that high then, but as more and more people are getting into the night flying side of things now,why isn't the new DX7SE transmitter got the backlit screen

It seems there is definately a market for making backlit screens and if I was an electronics engineer I would be looking into offering this mod and rake the coinage in

    Cheers Grant.

I've left a message asking for actual current drain. I'll let you know if/when I get an answer.

If memory serves me correctly, it was 39mA but I could be remembering the wrong thing - that happens at my age

I spoke to some one I know he didn't seem to be interest in helping.
I would love it to be done by Horizon.

Would be very interested in getting my DX7SE done if you make any progress on this subject.

The hardest bit is putting the display back together after removal of the transrefelective backing andgetting the right pressure on the zebra strips so you dont loose any segments... really a clean room taskto ensure no contamination and tehn equal pressure all teh way down the zebra's...

The EL is reasonably simple. Leds wont look so good as they can only be put by the ends of the glass (the led backlit ones are thicker and have bigger zebras and retainer) and the clusters go behind the glass. the also draw more current than EL strips.

Now enhanced with some more EGS's....

Surely I should qualify for some discount and priority service after suggesting such a sterling idea?:d

My self and Rob will give it a go on ours, when we are happy we will do a good tutorial and show where all the products are available. If its cheaper may do a bulk buy on items and sell as kits. No profits as far as I am concerned will be made.

I personally will not be doing this mod to anyone elses DX7 either, just showing other people 'how to'.

As everything else like this, it will be at your own risk etc.

Let me know what the part numbers of the standard screens are and the driver IC's and i will try and source them with EL pannels already fitted. it will save bustin the screens accedentally ..
