  • A quick Q

Probably a stupid girly question but is it OK for my Tx to go through the xray machine at the airport? I wouldnt have thought it would be a problem but not knowing much about how these things work I thought I'd check.

I'm having to take my laptop away with me so thought the Tx might like a trip too (just in case I can find five mins to fly on Phoenix! Very sad I know!).

Electrical items are usually XRay`d to make sure there are no bombs etc hidden inside

Most cargo is X Ray`d unless specifically told not to ie film, some magnetic media etc

I took a Laptop with me to Portugal earlier this year, (working) and on my return they made me turn it on to prove it worked, so make sure you are up to speed on the phoenix, they may want a demo flight

Just take it. declare it before security & take it through. It's legal & legit.

I only ever had one problem when taking a transmitter back to Africa during school holidays. Must have done it 15 to 20 times and every other time it was ok.

Biggest problem on that one time was the 3 rx batteries, 7or 8 servos, power drill, box of x-acto knives and a combat jacket. Probably not the best hand luggage ever, but I was young!!

The tx will be fine technically and security will be ok with it. As has been said before just declare it to them as you approach the machine

                    Hi

Yes it will be fine, if you go to Germany or a similar country they are a little more switched on over security so don't be suprised if you get called over to a little booth where they will use a niffer machine to check the radio for explosive traces, it's interesting to watch and good to know at least some one is carrying out worthwhile checks!

                    Best regards
                    Bob

                          Yes

I didn't go this year, but I did go last year. I can't recommend it enough. Ok, the models are sxxte, but what would you expect from a stuff that gets flown all summer, all day, by all sorts of people? But, it's 7 day a week flying, and you can get out of it whatever you want.

When I went, I had been stuck in a rutt with my heli flying for nearly 2 years - couldn't move on from just hoverring around in front of myself. I went there and had a heli lesson every day and hey presto - job done. Circuits sorted.

I also flew planes all day long to my heart's content.

I wasn't allowed to go this year because of family comittments, but my club mates went again, and one chap took 2 Sceadus, a TRex 450 and his 14MZ all in hard suit cases. He had 4 gallons of Cool Power 30% (They only use 5% out there for everything) delivered there before he went, of which he used 3 and left one behind.

Other chaps just went to enjoy the weather and poodle about with a few planes.

I think for what it costs, it's great, but my advice would be don't expect too much in terms of quality or looked after machines, either fixed or rotary wing. If you want good mechanics, take your own.

I'd definately go again - it's a laugh if you go with a bunch of flying mates.

I looked into going last year and it just didn't happen for time reasons mainly.
The other problem was a lack of contact from them when I emailed a few questions over... you have just answered them here already though
I asked about heli's and fuel - I expected to need to take my own of both.

I might consider it in the future, although the way my time is eaten up already, I reckon I'll be hard pressed to manage that as well...

                            Cheers,
