I have explicit instructions for modding (replacing...) the DX7 voltage regulator which I can email you if you PM me....
Edmund All Electric: Tx: Futaba 18mz & Spektrum DX8 Gen 2 for BnF toys Helicopters:Blade mCPX, Nano CPX; T-Rex 250SE; Outrage G5, Outrage G5 FBL; Trex 500 CF; Trex 500 ESP, Trex 500 Pro FBL Small Planks:Multiplex Acromaster, PA Addiction, PA Extra 260, Big Plank:Jabiru SK Chargers: eStation Bantam BC8; Graupner Ultra Duo Plus 50, LiPro Quad 6, Revolectrix Celpro PowerLab 8 v2
I've been running a lipo in my DX7 for many months now without modding. No problems here. If you do decide.. ensure that the polarity is correct on the plug. I had to reverse mine.
and don't forget not to try charging it up from the charging Jack again
Bought the lipo from ebay.. it is a GE Power tx pack.

Don't want to be a kill joy but, If you mod any TX or Rx to be non standard you will void any type of CE marking that it has, this means in the unlikely event of failure and a crash that requires an insurance claim there's a good chance that they will not payout! Sadly it's the way of the world today that if you give any poss reason for a get out out it will be used against you.
The only way to avoid this is to return your equipment to a registered company who are known to comply with the required certification.
Having said all that I use a Lipo in my DX7 and have had no problems with it so are modifications really required any way.

That is a very good point re the modding....(i'm not confident in soldering pcbs anyway..)
I recall that I have read that the regulator is rated to cope with a lipo.. but there has been concern over it overheating in the case. Having said that, I fly my 450 with 5 to 6 packs back to back(Without turning the tx off between flights), and the transmitter on the back has never felt hot.
