Can someone point me to a summary of how the spectrum stuff works?

Two part Rx with antennas at 90 degrees is interesting!

Never get shot down... do you have 20 spectrum sets working all on the same frequency and they don't listen to eachother becuase every single one has its own unique code or something? how long before two with the same code meet up?

Like you can walk down a steet and stand a good chance of opening a red Ford Escort becuase fords keys have only a few thousand possiblities. Someone got home from the cinema in a red escort and realised it wasn't theirs the next morning and eventually found the other guy who hadn't noticed he didn't have his own car!

I remember those Reftec UHF sets from the late 70's. They were supposed to be glitch proof...nasty things they were, expensive too!

My only other thought to add to this would be is how future proof is it. Is this the first of the revolution. Will Futaba and Jr et al bring out their own slightly different system, patent pending etc. What are the chances of it being a betamax in 5 yrs time??

I don't want to sound too negative, I think it's a great idea and if I had a spare £250 then it would feature highly.

your looking at it the wrong way, it's pretty cheap, it's basically JR inside and out and it will allow micro heli's to be flown without all the encumbent glitching, lockouts and unecessary field ploughing.

Oh, and I pick mine up Sunday to review it

          www.spektrumrc.com has all the info

Basically it uses spread spectrum technology operating at 2.4ghz
Thats way above any rf noise etc which causes glitching
Its also very smart, each Tx has a unique code called a guid code, when you install the Rx you pair it to your Tx,after that the Rx will only take instruction from your Tx

There are 80 assigned frequencies in the UK and the system uses 2(1 for each Rx)

When you switch the Tx on it scans and selects 2 frequencies then tells your Rx which ones its using,,this takes up to 2 seconds

If there are 40 people at your field all flying at once(unlikely)then there would be no spare frequencies, your Tx will simply wait for an available one and the Rx in turn will be waiting for the Tx to pick a couple

2 full 7channel Rxs work on the 2 selected different frequencies, each receives the same command from the Tx and the main Rx compares its signal with the one from the slave Rx,if one is corrupted it uses the good one etc..

If both become corrupted(highly unlikely) it will failsafe the model

Wont become outdated,,its basically all JR gear more or less

Futaba and JR may go on to develop their own but they would all use 2.4 gig,the Rx`s would possibly be compatible but if not then you just stick to the Spektrum system...

          It wont become outdated

I think the price is remarkable for the technology used

Also the antennas on the Rx`s are only a couple of inches long so on the small T rex size stuff there will be no more antenna routing issue

They do a micro Rx for this type of model or the larger dual Rx for the bigger stuff

Browse their website for an accurate and detailed description

Anybody who uses Rc cars in a club enviroment will know that this system has been out for a good year or so and dominates over 27 or 40 meg now

No more peg boards to worry about either

          Its a win win situation...

35mhz will become obsolete eventually, also the Tx has a nice little rubber duck antenna,no long metal one to keep bending like i do

As in the Rc CAR stuff, they will probably release modules that will plug into the module socket on most JR and Futaba transmitters

I think there is somthing like 15 billion unique id's before they start reappearing. Athough they are shared amongst everything that uses this technology.

I used it on my cars, had a module for KO Mars R you caould have 79 cars racing at once with no pegboard. never tried 79 I only ever got up to about 6 I think at once but its a great system. All engine interference/glitching generated is below 400mhz so at 2.4ghz its way above it, hence not an issue. It was cure for lazy wiring if nothing else.

One quick query though the manual shows 3 servo 90 degree eccpm. It appears as 4 servo but with the front one missing. Is that how it works? You would still have 3 doing the pitch and 2 for left/right etc but only one on the forwards and backwards.

            Col.

                  Thanks for the info.
Guess was being lazy and not looking fo rthe spectrum site myself.
Plus I was looking at it with my new 35Mhz radio sitting under the xmas tree in the background!
I hadn't realised that this RC technology was moving as fast as computers
I'd also expected legal approval for this to move at the pace of a typical glacier.

I like the point about health problems...
Another reason to fly electric so you only get exposed to the transmission for 10 minutes in every hour

I wonder what happened to mobile phones giving us brain tumours?
what happened with that flesh eating virus that was going to kill us all?
and by the way they forgot to tell us the south pole ozone hole has actually healed up!

Yeh, but surely the recent unusually windy & wet weather has to be down to these new radios I mean, it was nice and dry until they came out...proves it!

Maybe everyone in the SE should get one & end their hosepipe ban quicker.
