You can only use Spektrum or JR (which are SPektrum!) receivers with Spektrum or JR transmitters so the only reason to like Spektrum is maybe the price of the receivers?

There may be some Futaba compatible receivers from China at some point but I'd stick with Futaba.

Only reason why I got pushed away from Futaba. I still want a 10C though, better than DSX9 IMO for value for money, features, feel etc...

I was going to make the same comment, but it's not strictly speaking true. The Eflite receivers in the CX2, mCX and mSR are DSM2 compatible. Also, the Mikado Mini-V bar can take Spektrum satellite receivers, making it semi-Spektrum compatible.

Finally, the DSM2 2.4GHz receiver chipset is an off-the-shelf component, so making compatible receivers is not entirely infeasible, as it probably is with FASST.

Fair enough but the Eflite receivers are from Horizon Hobby which owns Spektrum so, yes, they will work and you can buy the bind-n-fly versions.

I remember reading about the V Bar before but this isn't the biggest market in the world

I know both XPS and Spektrum use off-the-shelf chipsets, as probably do all the Chinese systems available but surely Futaba designing their own chips is a plus point, no?

To be fair I've used both Spektrum and Futaba FASST and both have been faultless so I feel the only fair comparison is on features and cost and both have pluses & minuses! For feel and build quality I'd say JR is better but for features for the price the 10CG is pretty hard to beat, whatever floats your boat
