  • DX7 Gimbal bearing upgrade.

Purchased some gimbal bearings from RC-Bearings in the states yesterday and plan to upgrade my ageing DX7.

Having watched Ashley Davis's tutorial video I'm definately gonna have a crack at changing them.

Anyone done this upgade and can offer any advise.

Also.... Does the latest DX7SE have bronze bushes the same as the original or have they got the upgraded bearings as standard.

It makes a noticable difference especially if its getting used a lot. One of my gimbals was a little 'poppy' round centre. Fitting the bearings sorted that and its been in use constantly ever since.

        Worth the effort

Did this mod on mine a couple of months back.
Not really noticed that much difference although my DX7 hadn't been used all that much before I made the change.
Can be a little fiddly. Watch out you don't lose the springs!

Certainly a good mod to do. I did my DX7 and DX7 SE without any issues at all. The vid helps. Just take it step by step and do not jump any without double checking. I thought I knew best after doing one and forgot to put a couple of screws in and had to strip it all down again. WHAT A BALLACHE that was.

Not massively noticeable, but peace of mind that it is done counts for something I guess.

              Matt.

I have both my DSX9 and my DX7 side by side here in front of me and the DSX9 Gimbals are silky smooth compared to my old DX7.

Hoping the bearing upgrade will make some difference..

Did the mod on my DX7, made the sticks feel a lot nicer for me. Not quite as nice as a DSX12 but considerably cheaper

All you have to do is take your time and work systematically.

Well worth the hour it will take.

the dx7 bearing upgrade will not make your sticks feel like the dx9. when i done mine it was more to see if it worked and was noticeable, the answer was it was not noticeable. if anyone thinks it made a difference then either the sticks were WELL worn or the good old placebo kicked in. as matt says though, peace of mind meant it was worth doing more than looking for better sticks.

                  cheers

                    In your opinion.

I found it removed the 'stiction' and the sticks felt smoother. In my opinion.....

Each to there own. Its is only a $15 mod anyway

One things for sure, as long as you do it properly it wont hurt will it?

put mine side by side with a normal dx7, none of us could really tell a difference..........read into that what you will.

i'm sure it does make a difference on worn out sets but i done this to nearly a new set at time.

as for any harm, absolutely will not hurt.

                      cheers

tim, i can guarantee barneys radio has thousands of hours on it so if a fly had a shit on the sticks it would tighten it back up! lol.

                          cheers
