  • What do I do now?

So, about a month ago I had a couple of crashes with my 450 that were caused by poor reception, and the receiver going into a failsafe condition. Ground range testing showed very poor 'antenna down' range (30 paces for one reciever, 20 paces for another). Sent all my kit off to MacGregor to be told that everything (JR 9XII tx + RS77S PCM rx) were working perfectly.

So, having got it back and tried again, and it still not working, I'm a bit unsure what direction to take. There's a lack of people around here with compatiable gear, so it's difficult to try to eliminate any one bit, and besides Macgregor gave it a clean bill of health. Hmmm.

I've pretty much come to the conculsion that I should have come to two years ago, that mounting 35MHz gear is a pain in the arse, and that 2.4GHz is the way to go. I have a DX6i here that I got 2nd hand with the Beam a couple of weeks ago, but I haven't dared use it in anger because the throttle hold is in the opposite place to the 9XII and, well, it doesn't feel as nice

Right now I'm tending towards buying a Spektrum module for the 9XII (they're not that expensive when bundled with a rx, and I'll need a couple of rx anyway), but am put off by the increased latency (not that I'll notice it for a few years yet). On the other hand, I could just get used to the layout on the DX6i and have done with it, or I guess I could modify the 6 to use the layout I'm used to (what is the proper layout, anyway?!). Or something else?

Suggestions anyone? It's been like a month since I went flying and this is starting to get to me!

I'm sure everyone will have there own views on this one mate, I personally would sell the dx6i and use the money to purchase a 2.4 spektrum module for the JR TX. Simply because you are used to using it.

I have a JR pcm 9x with a 2.4 module, although I did start on a DX7 but just could not get on with how it felt.

That would hopefully solve the reception issues and you will be able to fly the beam also on the JR TX.

Thanks for your input. That was the way I was leaning, so I'm glad to hear someone else is using the setup successfully. Do you feel you notice any 'extra' lag now with the Spektrum module compared to before, or do you think this is mostly a theoretical drawback? I'm nowhere near doing 3D; simple piroetting flight is about the best I can manage.
