FF7 Ratchet removal

Hi

Anyone have any 'look out for' suggestions before I remove the ratchet on my FF7?

Don't want to take the back off only to be told 'Watch out for....etc'.

Anyone else done this and have any tips for this model?

I have the FF9 Super Tx, and when i took the ratchet off of that the stick became very, very loose with no friction and would not stay at the top unless you held it there it would always drop back about 5mm. I just bent the metal ratchet out slightly so the ratchet was very soft but it still held where ever I put the stick

I suppose it's down to personal preference, but for me it did not feel nice at all with the ratchet removed

Okay its not a bad operation to do very simple BUT the stick goes to loose!
You should back off the rachet so it doesnt notch but holds the stick still and then thread lock it so the screw doesnt come loose in the tranny.

If you remove the battery and take the back off you will see a small piece of stainless/spring steel on the throttle side of the tx, near the middle. It points down from the top. Remove the screw and steel strip.

WARNING - the screw is easily lost the the tx - keep hold of it!!

Turn the steel strip over and put it back in. You will have to bend the strip gently. This won't get rid of the ratchet but will lessen it.
IMHO, don't fly it without the steel spring strip at all. As others have said, it's very loose and scary

You can go one stage further and remove the little plastic ridges that make up the ratchet but that's a one way deal.

I was thinking about buying the FF7, but eventually bought the FF9 super instead. However, whilst I was thinking of buying the FF7, I contacted Ripmax to find out about how I would remove the ratchet effect. They just took my address and sent me a replacement metal strip free of charge that removes the ratchet effect. After buying the FF9, I just gave this metal strip to a guy at my local club. Jobs a good one !

i bend the metal tab a little. take the top off the V

then gently sand the top of the teeth off the plastic cam. make sure you do it evenly or you will get different amounts of ratchet at different stick positions.

finally put the spring tab back on and test. adjust the spring until there is some tention on the stick so that it stays where you put it when you shake the transmitter but not too much so it becomes an effort to move it.

All I do is push a small piece is silicon tube over the ratchet spring and bend it up a little, see below !! It gives a smoth action to the control adjustable with the spring ! (and you keep the teeth !)

I was thinking about removing all the teeth on my ratchet, but maying a little indent at centre stick to help with finding 0'...

For now I just bent the metal spring up a little to reduce the ratchet a bit which seems to work ok.
