    DX6i Lipo Battery mod

Guys this is how I modified mine:

    1. Take the screws out of the Tx case and remove the back, be careful because there are some connectors. I removed all of them, but make sure you know where they go back to first. You need to disconnect the power lead from the motherboard at least. This is circled in the 1st photo.

    2. Using a pre-bought BEC socket with flyleads, trim the cable so you have enough to connect to the +ve and -ve battery connectors, yet be able to push the socket part through one of the aperture into the battery compartment. Solder this flylead to the battery terminals where the motherboard cable is already presoldered, red to red and black to black.

    3. Push socket through into the battery bay and fold wires flat so they can't get trapped. Replace all disconnected sockets and carefully refit the Tx rear case, making sure no cables are misplaced or trapped. Refit Tx case screws.

    4. Fit your 2 cell lipo, by connecting the BEC plug with socket and curling cables so they don't get nipped when the batt cover is replaced. Turn on check voltage and operation.

    5. Photo's of the DX6i screens show Vapextech 2100 cells freshly charged at 5.2v, barely halfway and the 2 cell lipo screen at 7.7v and with a full voltage indicator.

Any more questions please ask, I hope this is all clear. Please, please, please make sure polarity is correct before powering up!

      Hi Pip,

Thank you so much for the effort

I had a word with my club today and told them i'm going to modify my Tx and fit a one connection lipo and they were happy with that..

I'll get on with trying to buy a plug and a suitable lipo for the mod..

      Thanks again, much appreciated!

Why does your picture show a 3S lipo?

I'd check the volts with a meter. Even a 2s lipo will give 8.4v. The tx will work happily down to fully flat Nimhs at 4.8volts.

            Mojo,

If you have problems finding a BEC socket, let me know I might have a spare one?

            All,

The batt in the pic used to be a 3S, but one cell failed, so I modified it to a 2 cell, but the capacity is still 1200mAh. sorry I should have explained that. For this application you need capacity rather than voltage.

I don't understand why you would use a UBEC?!"?!?!

Use the greatest capacity that will physically fit in the battery holder. That one is an old century pack modified to 2cells. I have used the Tx loads and not charged the batt yet.

Tx works fine at 8.4volts, but I wouldn't give it any more.
            regards

            Pip

The battery box is 57mm x 45mm x 15mm deep. But that needs to include cable too!

                My century battery is quite small, 52mm x 37mm x 12mm.
                regards

I have just done the mod and it works fine with no ubec installed,

Problem that i have is that I got a LPO-1200 battery and it was the last one from rcflghtbox and they are not getting anymore

Does anybody know where i can get another even tho i dont think i can or an alternatve battery that will fit

                  Many Thanks,

                  Jonny

Just a quick question here, will this invalidate your BMFA insurance as it is seen as a radio gear modification? so for example god forbid it should happen but if your model ran away and hit someone/something then the insurance could say it is because you had done this mod........

Knowing insurance companies....more than likely Probably worth checking with the BMFA first

That's what i was thinking Phil, this is why i have not done the mod,I was just reading the thread that Martin posted about BMFA insurance and there were talks in there about things like this.I wander if Horizon could offer a professional service to do this modification then that way you wouldn't be liable in an accident. This would be a better option
